Hi, Am I in the wrong place? I live in the USA. Is this site for the UK only? I just love snails and I cannot find any clubs in the USA. I would like to meet someone who like to chat with me about our snailies. I am a 76 year old male (straight please). My goal is to keep snails as pets and raise e few to eat. I live on a 15 acre farm in Michigan. I am here for 41 years and have never seen even one snail on my farm. I grow a lot of Hosta and they don't even have any signs of snails. Anyone interested?? Gerald

Hi Gerald. This site focuses mainly on the Giant African Land Snails, which are illegal in the US but are popular pets in other parts of the world. We have members here not just from the UK but from all over the world, including a few from the US. Our focus is on snails as pets, so I don't know how much people will be interested in discussing them as food. If you haven't seen any snails on your farm, you should probably consider yourself lucky as a farmer! Certain snails can cause agricultural devastation to crops. I'm sure there are native snails in your general area but they probably prefer a different habitat than the one on your farm. You may have to hike around in the woods or along a stream to find them. Small native snails can be challenging to keep as pets because their cultural needs (habitat, temperature range and food) are difficult to replicate in the home. Feel free to browse around the site, and have a look at the main webpage as well for some info about snail care: www.petsnails.co.uk/
