Ok, where do I start? Firstly, since the reminder of a Snail Photography Competition it has come clear that another competition should be held sometime soon. Secondly, Paul has mentioned that anyone can get involved with the competition or anything else like this in the future. He certainly would like people to be involved and it doesn‘t need his say so. Arno had suggested that I could help out. This may include rules, deadlines and generally the running of the competition. Thirdly, this has become clear from the recent threads on the Snail Photography Competition and the Classifieds sections. I would like to ask everyone to whether or not the object to me organizing the Snail Photography Competition. Although Paul has said that I don’t need his say so do this, but I feel that it important that I should ask all the members of this forum whether they object to me doing this. This may not necessarily mean that they don’t want me to organise the competition, but maybe they would like contribute as well. Lastly, I would like to hear your views on this matter. I don’t want to just go ahead and get on with it for some people may have also wanted to help out. Lets say that no one wanted organize this with me, then it certainly wouldn’t mean that no one else has contributed. As I have read, many people have different ideas on how this competition should be done. I will take individual ideas from everyone which would help me to set up the rules and regulations. So, a people’s opinions on this matter would be helpful. See these threads for further info: petsnails.proboards3.com/index.cgi?board=suggestions&action=display&n=1&thread=2044petsnails.proboards3.com/index.cgi?board=suggestions&action=display&n=1&thread=2045&page=1Thanks

I wasn't particularly meaning the time the competition should be held, I was meaning whether or not other people would like to help... I would like to organise the competition but I don't want to leave others out.

Come on people! I want to hear what you guys have to say. So far, I'm getting the impression that no one else wants to contribute in to the organization of the competition.

I object!! Rofl just kidding. Go ahead and do it ya loony I think one every month or so would be great as it's such a hit on lots of other sites (and could get us even more good members) and we all have -so- many photos of our snails!! We don't all post every single photo, like Sarah the other week she said she took 49 pics or whatever it was, and I bet some of those she didn't post would be great for a competition (Not saying that the ones she did post were no good!). We shouldn't let them just stay on our comps and not get seen. (Or only get seen by a few people) Once the initial rules etc are done, it shouldn't take that much to set one up each month or two. I'll help, just tell me how and I'll tell you if I can do it lol Only thing I've thought of so far though, is a rule for no picture should be used for 2 (or more) comps in a row. Use a different one each time. We should all be able to get enough if we don't have them already! Oh, and as to people who might be feeling left out as they don't have a camera or anything, the comp is only for fun, it doesn't matter that much because you still know yourself how great your snails look ;D I don't enter the one on the fish site I go on as I can't get any decent shots of my fish, but I still have fun looking through all the other pictures.

maybe not every month, i think people would get bored of it after a while and you'll end up with no entries, maybe every 6 months. We could have one in January and one in July, y'know

I wasn't a member when you had your last competition, so I don't know how long it was since then. I gather now that people don't mind me going and organizing this. All the relevant info about times, dates, rules and regulations will come sometime soon. Like I said before, I will take into account everyone's views on aspects like how often the competition should be held.

Personally I think once every month or 2 (maybe 3) but that's because I'm used to that, I find it fun and I know it works on other sites. And no I'm not saying it'll work on here for sure 'cause it does on other sites I'm just saying it what I've seen along with what I think. I don't see how it would get boring when there's so many different pictures to take, but again that's my opinion and as I'm used to photo comps that could be swaying my view a bit lol. I also think that if it's only once a year everyone could end up flooding it with their pics where as with having them more frequently everyone will get the chance to have a go. More than 8 pics to vote for could be too much. Lol there, that's my views. Now what would you need help with?

Now what would you need help with? Unless you would like to, I don't really need any help at the moment. In some ways I think it may be easier for me to come up with some rules and how the competition will be organised then put them on here and see what people think. If people like them then they stay the same. If people say hmm.. well I think it should be held once every 3 months then the dates change. Thank you very much for the offer , but currently I don't need any help. Like I said, if you really want to help then of course you can ;D, but if you are just offering then I would just like some time to sort all of this out first. Get me?

I have no objection with you organizing this(I hardly can now do I?lol)I agree with Sian that having it more often gives people the chance to decide whether or not they want to take part in that particular competition.

Well I joined in September, and there wasn't a competition then - so it must have been ages ago. I agree with once a month, or two months - it works really well on other sites, and if some members are bored by it - they just dont enter it - but there's others there to fill their spaces. Once a year would be daft. Imagine picking one photo out of hundreds taken by the member in one year - how would they choose? Rules wise. Must contain snails. And no porn. That includes snail porn

Here's an idea then. Why not run the photograph competition to coincide with the society newsletters? That would mean more people may get to hear about it and if we organise the society better people could send normal photos also. Then the winner could go in the next issue. Just an idea...
One other thing to mention is that at the moment I think the process is pretty simple. People can simply post their entries to a thread and we can have a poll or thread for votes. If the idea is gonna be regular perhaps some sort of picture submission form and vote utility could be written properly. It's not a big job. No need for now I don't think, but I mention it now so you know that's an option.

Well, we agreed to do one every 3 months if I remember correctly... how likely that is I haven't a clue.
