I've been thinking about this quite a bit. We really have 2 sections on the forum, snail related and non-snail related. And it is good to have both. But, unfortunately the recent posts thing covers all sections, you can't set anything else and I can't have more than one. So I think, posts shoot down the list very fast, you'll notice I upped it to 25 posts, maybe it needs to be higher.
I tried to fiddle with the search feature and the URLs it produces and you know what? They stop you sending the same search more than once within a time limit. So the feature would work, only if people weren't all using it. So that is crap. I can think of ways around it, but they may not integrate with the board properly. I'd like to try a few tests and I need someone with another IP to do it, so any volunteers! You'll need MSN or yahoo. If we could crack this, we can have two "recent posts" bits, one for both sections. That would be fantastic.
So, for the time being and until a miracle appears from the authors of this forum, I have some suggestions to keep the forum useful to people who are specifically looking for info and keep the friendly spirit of the community going in the fun areas.
Try and put the thread in the most relevant place you can find. If we're lacking something let me know.
Try and write a succinct but descriptibe and relevant title to any threads you use. You may have noticed I've been changing some, once they're off the recent posts it can be hard to find what you want for visitors.
Avoid posting anything irrelevant to serious threads. I am gonna start removing posts from threads if they're not relevant. It doesn't matter if you do post, all I'm saying is that I will start cleaning the threads up. So, the less there are the easier it will be for me
Use the search engine more if you are having trouble locating posts.
There is not much more we can do really. That's the trouble with having free forums. But at the moment I ain't prepared to start with another.
