Hi All
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what food I should leave out for our snails whilst we go away for a few days. I have tried them on snail mix and they seem 100% not interested in it - though perhaps they would eat it if that was all there was or maybe I need to try another "brand"
Also, I would be interested in your thoughts on whether I would need someone in to tend to them or whether they would be ok left on their own.
Details are:
6 Fulica
Monday = going away but could feed/spray etc before leaving Friday = return so will be home to feed / spray etc. etc.
Technically, the snails would only be unattended for 3 days.

Three days is nothing, if youre worried about them not having food invest in a sweet potato. Slice it thickly and leave that in thier container with them. You'll find it lasts longer than most vegetables. Romaine heart lettuce is also a good long lasting foodsource (takes a long while to rot, tends to wither rather than go mouldy).

lol three days is something? Yeah romaine all the way, alot of lettuces tend to disolve into a nasty paste when placed in a warm environment but romaine keeps its texture. Very good for hatchling tubs. Have a nice trip

I'm not going on holiday for a while but I wanted to know how long I can leave my snails on their own without anything happening. I don't know how long I will be away, but I will be having someone come in a check on them if I'm gone longer than expected.
How long can deep retraction disorder go on before it the snail dies? I knw this sounds over the top but I wanna make sure I don't harm or loose my babies.
Like I say, I'll have someone come and check on them if I'm gone longer than the four days I expect.

I went to paris for a weekend. I read somewhere that snails can store food for months. So here is what I did.
The night before i left. I put in a large batch of their favorite food. And waited overnight.
When getting up. All the food had gone. So I sprayed the snails and put a new cuttle in along with thickly sliced sweet potato. I then left for paris.
On returning. Little of the sweet potato had remained. So I threw that out and went back to their original food.
Ideally. and if you tank is light. Why not give them to a friend during the period you're on holiday? Or give your friend keys to the house to feed/check the snail.
