My two Iredalei Albatross and Goliat recently mated for the first time. Since the mating Goliat has been acting strange. He has been burrowing alot and sometimes actually sealed himself in. There has been no change in the conditions and he started burrowing himself the very next day after mating.
I have had Pomatias for a very long time and I've never seen this behavior before. I could understand the burrowing as it usually starts two weeks after mating but as he's going into hibernation as well it seems strange. Yesterday, as it had been a little more than a week and a half, I put both him and Albatross in a delivery/baby tank. This in order for them to have their babies in their directly instead of me chasing them around the large tank.
Albatross seems very active as I optimised the environment for them in order for them to have their babies. I do this when I want them to mate as well and it simply means that I give them enormous quatities of food wich usually works. Goliat has burrowed during the night, however he's about to give birth or that he's just sealing in again is not certain as I don't want to disturbe him if it's babytime.
My questions are; Has anyone noticed this behavior before? Is it dangerous for Goliat or the unborn babys for him to hibernate? Is it possible that they can have mated and one of them or both still aren't pregnant?, I've breeded pomatias before and in thoose cases both snails always laid eggs, but I have no reference of iredalei mating behavior.
-Emil.

A little update: Yesterday Goliat spent all day burrowed and later on also Albatross burried. I left them alone but kept sneaking around with my camera to document the live birth. When I went to bed there where still no babies and when I woke up in the morning I found both Iredalei up and eating intensivly. I looked in their burrowings- no babies. Altough their burrowings seems to have been dugged out as little caverns. Later on Albatross returned to his Burrowing but Goliat is still up eating cuttlefish like crazy.

No babys yet but both iredalei seems more active since I gave them more light. I didn't change temperature or moist level just modified the tank so it would be brighter in day time amd they sem to like it. I find this strange as I find that usually snail activity goes up when light goes down. They have continued with their burrows. they are now small cave rooms formed underneath the moss. I'm pretty sure they've dug them for the babys... Anyone else who've seen this behavior or have any knowledge however a pregnant snail can hibernate or not?
