other than genetics, what causes stunted shells, and slow growth?
to crowded habitat? (is this one?)
lack of calcium? (i guess that is one)
what else?

lack of calcium, overcrowding, tank to small, mites, illness, insufficient vitamins and minerals i would presume also, i think if the tanks at the wrong temp or to dry it might affect that as well.

I'd say mites were the cause of my fulica's stunted growth - there's a big dip in his shell from where he chewed on his shell when he had them a while back, and the new growth since then has been slow and rough

thats what humbug shell is like, kindof rusty where the new growth should be, but he isn't growing anymore, he stopped at about 4 cm.

Yeah, my fulica is around 4 - 5cm and hasn't grown much lately - hopefully he'll continue to grow though
