is this normal? Whenever we take him off for food etc he ignores the food and goes straight back on the lid and that is where he stays.

There is a saying about leading a horse to water... snails may be smaller but they're just as sure about doing what they want regardless of your intentions! Some snails just like hanging out upside down. Some do it when they're in new surroundings and haven't settled yet. Some because they don't like it at ground level - too warm, too cold, too wet, too dry, no suitable spot to snooze in, etc. Is he eating at all? He might be coming down at night when it's all dark to eat, in which case he's just a shy eater. If he's not eating at all then try him on as many different foods as possible - he might just be picky.

He does eat a few foods but i must admit not as much as the others do ( variety wise). once he has had a nibble he will zoom straight back up to the lid and stay there, you have to take him off the lid and place him near his food otherwise he wouldnt eat it. My hubby cals him a vampire bat snail!!!!!

My aspersa is like that. He eats when he feels like it, which sometimes is every 2 or 3 days, in spite of my efforts to place him on his food.

Hi, I'm new here so will probably muck this up! I had this exact problem with my African land snails until I put a plant pot cut in half in the tank. It was like a miracle! They love sleeping in them. Now they only stomp across the lid and not fall asleep on it! I don't know if yours have cover, if not try this and see if it works. Good luck!

One of my snails hangs off the lid sometimes, but can stay there for quite a while do think its for a better view. Because whenever I put food in his tank he seems to know its there and can't get off his lid quick enough in a slow slimy sort of way. But they can do that too. I take them off the lid for something to eat and they don't want to know just bury themselves but the food is all gone by the morning.

my aspersa (Eliza) goes everywhere. The lid, tiny pot, water dish food etc. She can't seem to stop moving everywhere. I have to find him somewhere everytime I check on him.. She poops a lot EVERYWHERE so I have to clean out everything so yeah That's my snail. Maybe you can trying putting in all sorts of objects and see what your snail likes It's kinda funny how Eliza doesn't poop on her food

If we could train snails, I'd like to train mine to wash my windows for me. It'd be easy for them, just crawling back and forth over the glass until it was sparkling. ;D

haha! If I could train them, i'll train them to run really fast and walk around the street with snails without people having to step on them.

I'd train them to sit on my shoulder as I went about town.

Yep. My Aspersa loves to "hang out"(literally) at the top of the tank. However, they always come down for food/eggshells.
