OK here we go My name is Sarah, and I run The Snail Shelter I've been doing the Shelter for about 10 years. That makes me feel old!!! I have been a member on here for quite a while but have only just really got the time to be able to get back online and contribute to more than a couple of forums. As well as the snails, I also keep stick insects, millipedes, mantids, tarantulas, scorpions, beetles, snakes...and Scooby the dog

lol, ok but just my arms ( am i allowed to post photos of my body arts here??) . and hands, oops and snails. Old and middle were considered as i engaged many of the earlier biblical texts, KJV, Rotherham's bible etc. Then i decided that the best approach would be the original languages. I did enjoy old english moreso than middle, as the gutterals were very similar to afrikaans which is basically the original dutch used by the settlers who travelled into south africa.
Anyhow we both must understand unfortunately that these languages are lost ( as far as definate pronunciation is concerned ), only being applied to a few short years of peoples university studies.( you may of course disagree ) I also hold the antiquated tongues quite dear.
Will post some pics tomorrow. All the best Ade

Hi Sarah, nice to meet you, we considered stick insects but just dont have the space, especially as we just inherited some aquatic snails to add to the evergrowing family. Ade

hiya, well im anna, 16, and i live on a hill blackface sheep farm in the scottish highlands. i have 8 snails, a 37 yrold shetland pony, 11 collie dogs, fifteen ducks, 900 sheep and 2 cats, 4 tadpoles, and some bats in the loft! i live for animals and country life, its what keeps me going most of the time! i have a small group of close friends, and of course all the lovely people on here! i spend most of my time when im at home riding a gorgeous horse called mylo, and helping with the wee kids when we give them riding lessons. working on the farm is my favourite thing to do and of course playing with the snails takes up lots of time too. havn't quite decided what i want to do when i 'grow up' as such, i might go to agricultural college this year. i know working with animals is definately going to be my life though! i suppose there are downsides to living in a very remote area, as its over 65 miles, over the sea as well, to any pet shop, and that only sells goldfish and rabbit food! we have to get our groceries sent over on the ferry that runs three times a week, and there is a definate lack of good-looking boys around here!

Howdy Ho! I'm Simon, 28 years old. I'm engaged and live with my missus of 5 years (I think) and her 2 children. My missus is disabled with as yet an undiagnosed condition so I'm her full time carer. In a previous life is used to work for a telecoms/ISP. Moved around a lot over the years but only within Shropshire and Staffordshire. As a kid I had the usual goldfish, hamster, tropical fish and stick insects but for many years after I had nothing. It was only when I became a carer and found myself tied to the house for the majority of my day that I sought something to keep me ticking over and not going mad! I've had a variety of stick insect species, 17 species of spider, over 40 giant millipedes, about 10 praying mantids, horned frog and malawi cichlids. Right now I keep a Yemen Chameleon, Blue Tongue Skink, Ghost Corn Snake, Goliath Bird Eating tarantula, 8 Snakehead fish, a Rainbow crab and of course my latest acquisitions - 5 albino retics. We also have a house cat and my partner keeps robo hamsters, rats and rabbits. Recently my interest has expanded into plants and I'm hoping to try and grow some cacti and succulents from seeds shortly. My other main hobby revolves around computing. I enjoy building machines and generally fiddling with them and software. My educational stint was based around this hence my previous job with an internet service provider. That's enough about me I think!

Ooh, cacti and succulents from seed! That's ambitious! Most people take the shortcut and use cuttings. Last year Mr Coyote took a photograph of a Peruvian torch cactus in bloom in a neighbor's yard. He gave a print of the flower to the woman who lived there, and she was so happy to have a beautiful pic of her cactus in bloom that she pulled off a piece of it and gave it to him to take home and plant. I was doubtful it would root, because I've had bad luck with that for some reason, but it rooted fine and even put out a flower last summer. I wish it would put out some new growth, though. Good luck with your cacti and succulents! You must be a very patient person! (Of course you must be, you have snails! ;D)

Morning All, Time to introduce myself properly...! I'm Lucy, 26, living in Maidstone.... Ended up where I am now due to an ex partner of 5 years running off with his best mates WIFE while I was out at WORK one evening.... I came back to an empty flat and a note on the mirror... So now I live back with my parents (sad I know), lost my flat, had to rehome my rats and my cats, change jobs and start again... Then another ex used me for money, and the last one I broke up with a few days ago Gonna stay single and free for a while now me thinks!!!! I have had Sid the Snail for a couple of years now, then in February decided to branch out and get more - now it is an obsession, lol!!!! I also have Molly, my hamster! I am a bit of a recluse, generally anti-social... have been treated for clinical depression several times in the last 8 years or so, and the internet is my main social activity - it may sound sad, but apart from concerts (which I never go to alone) I hate crowds of people!!! Plus where I live the transport is rubbish and I can't afford my own car!!! I am goth at heart, have several tattoos and piercings, love rock and heavy metal music, love fantasy and gothic literature, love cult and gothic films... and basically live for music!!! Hmmm... my favourite food is pizza, and thai food, I lived in Thailand for 5 years before Uni - have a degree in Sport Therapy, work for Network Rail's High Speed Link, and, well, I think thats me...!!!! So, Hi *waves*

So time for my introduction too i'm cecilia, i'm 23 (from just some days) and I'm from Piacenza, in Italy. I've also suffered a form of post-adulescent depression during the last year of high school dued to the messed situation of my family (i ended up living in a 40 square metres apartment with my mom and her boyfriend. I slept in the kitchen on a bedarmchair so i had the totally lack of space and privacy. i also didn't like my mom's boyfriend so i was practically nervous all day long). I have always hated italy. When i was 13 i wanted to move to england (london), when i was 16 i wanted to move to l.a. (dued to my passion for music and hard rock, i have tattoos myself) and when i was 19 i wanted to move to sweden where i am now. i'm not finished with university yet, my depression got me loose one year so now i have 6 exams left in italy (i take the books, study and then fly to italy to do the exams) and then i think i'll study here in sweden also if i have no idea what to do in the future (jobb). i love animals especially reptiles. I've had hamsters and now i have 9 snails, a cat (my bf's cat) and 2 hermit crabs. hermit crabs and snails are a childhood passion and in the future i'll get a snake (if i can put up with feeding it) or some other reptile and maybe a gerbil. i'm quite social person also if i'm quite lazy so i prefer the couch to socialization. i have a beatiful relationship with my bf so i guess that's enough for me. i'm generous and helpful as much as i can and also very patient. unfortunately if i loose my patience it is highly probable that i won't recover it. same with friendship and trust. i'm highly paranoid. after my depression i got agorafobia and so i'm also extremely scared from people especially robbers (since i was a child i kept my light on because robbers scared me and not ghosts) so i hardly sleep because i'm scared someone will break into my house and hurt me and my boyfriend. I got out depression myself, i didn't want to take medicines. this makes me easly on the way back to hell all the time, but i'm good most of the time that's more or less me (how scary )

Ok my name is vanda, i live in wales uk, had cancer and all the treatments 2 years ago and it has left me with a chronic illness that will probably always be there now, cannot do any of the things i could before due to invasive surgery, since then i have been trying to find things that interested me and i never dreamed it would be very large snails!!! i also make candles, and cushion covers from odd bit of material and they turn out real weird sometimes ;D i also do a bit of gardening growing flowers from seed, and toms and cucumbers etc, when the weather permits that is, i have 2 dogs did have 3 until a little while ago but had to have her put to sleep due to bad illness and old age I have a lovely hubby who thinks i am mad, he is probably right, i sneak snails past him through the post, and dont tell him til he notices i have a tattoo of and orchid on my arm as it is the flower of my name (sad eh?) find my snails of which i have 3 today but by the weekend i hope to have 5 1 fulica and 2 baby albinos i think, thats what they were bought as any ways, i am also suffering depression after cancer, and am on meds, so glad i asked for help, but not before beliving for a long time that i was the only person that was sane ;D but am much better now. i have a thought in my head to get loads of snails but i am not sure i could get all of them past the OH LOL! vanda x

Hi vanda, welcome aboard! Glad you're on meds that are helping (I know a few people who are struggling with finding something that will work for them). I hope you've got the cancer beat! ((vanda))
