So..lets see where to start from. My name's Karlos, I'm 28yrs old from Malta,single, doing a Bsc Nurseing course. Have a Dip. in Agriculture but alas I couldn't find a job, so after working a few odd jobs, I ended up in the current course. I worked as telephone operator (for those in the UK, worked with bulldog ISP, la redoute, empire, daxon and another one for kids), was a waiter, had a veggie shop, did odd painting/building jobs, security, driver and property consultant. I have a mini-zoo at home, which includes my 4 corns, 3 rats, gerbils, roborovskis, mice, hamsters, 3 lovebirds and tropical fish. Previously had geckos, skinks, mealworms/bugs, and local Helix aspersa. This week should receive my first GALS, and maybe a tarantula. I don't like the boom boom music of parties, prefer chilled out music, like oldies and reggae - although when I feel like letting some energy out, there's always some gig or another (Metal/punk). Used to hit the drums now and then with a punk band, but been ages now. I'm also an amateur photographer some of my work is here - s300.photobucket.com/albums/nn16/Midneb/I also drive an old Merc (1977), which I intend to restore once I finish the course and start working. Been abit around the globe (but if i could I wouldn't stay a day in the same place), been to Italy, France, Eygpt, & Ethiopia (first two where Agricultural course related, others where on voluntary work). I'm also multlingual, can speak english, maltese, french, italian, and to some extent spanish - can offend in many more languages (thats a perk of working security). Dunno what else...except that maybe nxt yr I'll be doing 3 months in the UK on a student exchange if I can get the money - well feel free to ask, I'm not really good talking about myself so much, although that should be most of my life in a nutshell. p.s. This 1981 model comes with a sense of humour ;D

Hi Karlos! How long have you lived in Malta? How does it compare with some of the other places you've lived? all my life, other places where short stays of between 3-5 wks. well its a sunny, safe country but it has it problems aswell. Its size is a major deterrent...even jobwise (and I still love this place even with all its downfalls). People are great, luv the uk, crazy and funny - and if u think maltese drivers are crazy u need to see eygpt (a 4-lane highway with a man going the wrong way on a donkey) here's a glimpse more here www.onlyinmalta.com/bm/imagepages/imagebm1.htmlwant to now something else just ask

Hi, i was just wandering around the forum and came across with this thread! You all seem so nice that I decided to share a little bit about myself too! My real name is Olga, 22 years old, have lived in Panama all my life but traveled to USA (Washington, Atlanta, Miami and New York), also Argentina once. My native language is Spanish so apologies for any grammatical/redaction errors (I personally have decent redaction in Spanish, since I love writing and reading, and its frustrating not do so in English) . I have a degree on Banking and Finances and currently working as a risk analyst on a local bank. Am not a social person, mainly because I prefer to stay at home and read a good mystery novel rather than going to parties or pubs (yeah am such a nerd) but still I have a very good small group of friends (we know each other since elementary school) and a very caring boyfriend (he is hindu and am Christian so we make a very interesting couple hahaha). I love, as I said before, reading.. among my fav writers are Stephen King, Shakespeare, Franz Kafka and Agatha Christie. As a child I used to play the piano, and was really good at it, but sadly abandoned the lessons…now am looking forward to take classes again! My aim is to play Bach’s Toccata & Fugue in D minor! I think it’s a fantastic piece!! I also draw what most people would call cartoons, but actually is called Manga, which is a particular Japanese form of drawing cartoons. My nick Seiyuro is an anime/manga character. You can see some of my drawings at www.seiyurohiko.deviantart.com Most are old since its hard for me to dedicate time to drawing because of work. My second, but not less important, passion is pets! I have had fishes, turtles, a teddy bear hamster that I adored (rip) , and now Kiki my amber snail. I never thought that in Panama snails existed since the majority of the time the weather is extremely hot (34°C or higher) so was very surprised when I found lil kiki on a garden plant! Now we happily have 3 months living together and like 15 days ago he had babies (like a million hahaha) so ill have company for long. I planned to take a French course on October, 1 month in Bordeaux… but unfortunately I had to undergo an urgent surgery last week, and don’t know if I will be able to travel since departure was on sept 25… so here I am… at home, in bed with sutures… I feel really bad since I was so exited about this trip and am not sure Ill heal in time to do such a long travel… I had all my hopes on it cause the past months have been very hard on me…. *Sigh* I just pray I can get well soon…. Heheh this is getting long…u see? I said I liked writing… heheh sorry if I bored u all! au revoir!

Hi, My name is Jade and I live in Devon. I'm 16 and studying for my A levels (German, Psychology, Biology + Chemistry). Bit of a nerd but fairly harmless lol. I like spending time with my mates and listening to classic rock (e.g. Led Zep, Pink Floyd etc.). That's pretty much it-I'm not a particularly interesting person! Along with the snails (Gregory, Oscar, Rambo, Maggie May and Fergus-eccentric names for eccentric animals) we also have Stick Insects, so we're pretty used to the unusual lol ( -;

Hiya. My names Alisha, but it's Lee for short. I'm 13 years old, and live in a little village in Norfolk. My mum's disabled, she suffers from ME & EDS Hyper mobility type 1+2, I go to high school and I study loads of different things but my favourites are Science, English and History. I love to read, things about Vampires and other fantastical creatures. Also Terry Pratchett novels, mainly Discworld, which strangely makes sense to me I have 10 snails, a dog, a rabbit, and two cats. I love animals and would love to work in a zoo or be a zooligist one day. That's pretty much me... Oh and Dusk, if you ever want an opinion on your books I'd be happy to give them a look over

Sorry about your mum having ME (I have it too), Lee. That's why I like snails so much, they're one pet I can manage to keep up with.

Haha, my mum doesn't like snails, but I'm determined to convert her She doesn't work because of her disabilities so that's why we got a dog and cats so she could have company while I'm at school. He's a little Lhsa rapso (sp?) x JRT we think. He's pretty cool, bit confused sometimes but like keeper like pet LOL.

Post by Robert Nordsieck on Jun 25, 2010 19:22:02 GMT
Hi there, so I will take part in this as well. When I joined this discussion board, I wrote a short posting to say hallo, but I think I never said, who I am. So I will here, as it looks like it is not impossible to tell you a bit about myself nobody will find on my homepage. My name is Robert Nordsieck, I am 42 years old. Originally I was born in Germany, near the Black Forest mountains. I left home after my A-levels to join the army and stayed there for a period of 5 years. Then I decided to begin studies, of biology and geography. I was supposed to become a teacher, but after finishing my studies I did not manage the practicals. So in 2001 I went to Vienna, Austria, to join my girl friend. By then I had begun by homepage, www.weichtiere.at, and in Austria I also took part in several snail related activities. I once was asked to help with a TV broadcast about snails in the German Pro7 channel with Aiamn Abdallah. But mainly I took part in GEO days of species diversity and in excursions with the German Malacological society. I was asked to take part in a book on GALs (only in German, I am sorry), and decided to write one of myself afterwards. That is currently with the editor and estimated to be published by end this year. Only in the meantime I am back in Germany, as my girl friend sent me packing after 9 years. I got to know another woman, a very beautiful one, also intelligent, and what is the best, she is very fond of snails, own about a hundred herself. Well, there is only one problem: She does not love me. I could say that drove me to drink, but I have always drunk quite much. So since about two and a half months I am in a therapy in the Westerwald mountains in Germany, trying to find what I once was, and get over the depressions without drinking. That is bloody hard, also there are almost no snails here, what is probably hardest. I continue working on my homepage and the book is finished, by I have a hard time dealing with snails, as they keep on reminding my of this woman. Things will fade, they already do, but there are still moments, where I think it will never end. (Part of it never will, as I will always remember her). In my time off, I like to watch politics, read books, mainly of Scholl-Latour, but also mysteries and history stories. So there always is a history behind the name on the screen. See you soon again here, Kind regards Robert

Hi, Robert. Best of luck to you. I know, the power sleeps inside yourself, the power to overcome all these difficulties (and a know a little bit what I´m talking about, I have gone through some sad times as well). But the strength is inside yourself and the world is full of exciting places, moments and adorable people. There is a time for healing and recovering, and there´s a time for new experiences. And this time will come. I have gone through all these things several times. That seems to be life. I think I can say so, at my methusalemian age.......... . All the best: wolf

Hi Robert, I'm sorry to hear about this woman you talk about. But don't let her drive you away from snails, it may be difficult but isntead of thinking about her when you see them can't you think of all the great times you've had, and let them remind you that, as snails are slow, it takes them time to tackle obstacles, of which there are many in their lives. And it's the same in our lives to, and no matter how long it takes, you must tackle this obstacle and move on to greener things the other side.
What's the name of your book? I'd dearly like to read it.
