I am a relatively new member and try and get on here as often as I can. I look at advice given for poorly snails but don;t feel qualified to do so myself until I learn more.
I have four babies at the moment and would like to report that they are all doing fine. My husband jokes about the biggest one being Schwartasnail, because he is the biggest LOL!!

I have been using this site since I was about 15 and used to come on here every night talk to people. There was a good group and when you posted it was answered in seconds. (not all about snails btw, we weren't THAT sad). We had a laugh. But I grew up, had a child, got a job, got house to look after, people move on and have new commitments, lives are busy, it's a shame really and I wonder what those people are up to now. Espescially Mike, he was wierd!Haha, that made me laugh ;D It's funny I just randomly checked the site after not logging on for years. I was just thinking lately about how much I used to love snails. It's amazing to think about how different I am now - I cringe when I think about some of the stuff I used to post back then! At the moment I'm studying Philosophy at the University of York. I do miss the group we had; I know Anjie got rid of all her snails a few years ago, I wonder what happened to Arno, Kevin, Val, Sarah, Paul and their snails. I think maybe I'll get a couple of snails after I graduate, but only two! I meant wierd in a good way! I still have snails btw, just don't use this site so often.

Hi there,
I do agree, it has become rather quiet. I just checked on my profile and I hardly can believe I have been in this forum since March 2006!
But I also see that my posting usually are hardly answered, except usually by coyote who is doing her best being everywhere (more like the roadrunner, obviously).
When I feel beyond myself (kind of Napoleon-like), I'd say that it simply is because everybody believes everything I write. But usually I'd say probably it simply is not interesting enough.
Perhaps we should come away from simply consumating and try to contribute something ourselves?
Kind regards Robert

Hi, I'm also still alive, I think... also registered since 2006 I have no interesting stuff to post... and I have to admit that I prefer caring for my snails and other pets than writing an answer to each post ( two times - firstly in my head in my native language, secondly in an understandable translation *ggg*)... but it is sad how 'empty' this forum is sometimes Regards, boone

I am a new member and have posted a few things, but they hardly get any replys! It is true that this forum has covered pretty much everything, but advice is still needed, snails are getting injured every day and advise for that sought, and people want an answer fast, you have to be faster to answer than it takes for them to research it themselves, be prepared to answer the same questions over and over again, don't just refer them to a previous thread, if there is a discussion there will be more activity, more people will become friends and use this place to chat, make banners and things for users to use to promote the site, I used to be on a stick insect forum for a good while and they were quick and plentiful with replys, they had weekly competions and had a colourful and attractive site with plenty of photos constantly being uploaded which created more discussions. Snails don't have to be this boring!! Find mods that have the time to be on the forum all day, rather than just for half an hour. I'm on this site pretty much all day, I'm constantly browsing it, but I'm not keen on posting or replying because I know I'll be waiting an age for a reply. This site needs more people to put the effort in, it's no good with only like 2 people running it... Get someone who is good at websites to liven up the look of this site, it's too dull and doesn't intrest me' at all, it needs way more effort put into it. Give people a reason to be on here... ))

heh seriously? imo the site is a forum for snail enthusiasts.....not "Hey come here so we can solve all your problems and make it interesting and fun for you to play." or "Come here and we are your loyal servants who just stand by the ready to answer your questions because we owe it to you, and have a obligation." Call me silly I suppose...but I'm a conservative....We believe in personal responsibility. IE if you want a answer find it out for yourself. If along the way you run into someone who can help, and they do so, then that is great, people helping people is how society helps itself, but it isn't and never has been a obligation. I am not sure about anyone else, but I know I do not pay a membership fee for this forum.....which in turn means it is unlikely (besides certain people who may use it to further their business and thus gain income from it that way.) that anyone is paid for doing anything on this site.....which means whomever doers anything does so not out of obligation, but because it is a group of enthusiasts which recognize by helping each other, they further a environment which helps a hobby or interest they care about, and it also allows them to learn on the way. I suppose adding in some style to the forum would make it more appealing, but customizing even a proboards setup takes time, to create the graphics, add the scripts/etc. I have absolutely nothing to do with this forum or its administration, but once more as a conservative if thats what you want, then setup a proboards forum yourself, customize it with whatever you think you might want it to have, and then offer it to the administrator here to implement, and see if they do. if not, and it is unsatisfactory to you, then run a forum yourself and be their competition. There is only so much you 'can' do with a proboards setup, but you can do a bit.....graphic headers, and sideboards, icons and such of snails might be nice, and even help people know of many of the wide varieties out there even....but the bottom line is....unless you are willing to do it yourself, it is imo rude to request it of others, when they are not being paid by you for a service. Myrtle: this may help you : petsnails.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=foruminfo&action=display&thread=5529 Let me give you some clarification perhaps or make it simpler if that isn't enough: go to a place that hosts pictures like photobucket.com/sign in, register/whatever. up at the top of the screen it will have a green 'button' that says "upload now" left click it and upload your picture to the site. now click on the picture if it doesn't immediately go to it after uploading and you will see "img code' just left click the space that has the code to the right of the picture and it should read 'saved' when you do. Now go onto the forum here and make a post and hit ctrl-v and you will see the paste of the img code you just copied. hit post reply, and your picture will be visible to all and yourself. click logout of photobucket/etc if you wish and you are golden. do the same over and over again whenever you wish to post a picture. p.s. this is uploading the picture you have on your computer already of course. pictures that are taken with camera's etc, are often large, and bulky. you can cut down a lot of the size of the file, as well as resize the dimensions of the picture by going to someplace like this : www.imageoptimizer.net/Pages/Home.aspx I do not use this myself, I have a professional image compressor, but that should suite your needs hopefully. all you do as the site says is point it to the picture you want to resize, put in the size you want it to be, and resave it on your system under a different name (I often will name the picture the same but with a dded letter which donates that it has been optimized, resized, edited, etc. but you can name it anything you want.) this added step saves a lot of time and space when uploading and makes it more enjoyable for others. enjoy. :-)

Thanks for that information foghog. I read the forum every day but don't consider myself as knowlegeable enough to answer questions. This forum is a mine of information and has been so useful to me. My newbie in a panic questions (there have been a few of those) have been answered in a very helpful way.

everyone is a teacher and everyone is a student.....what you learn today may be what someone else asks about tomorrow, and saves them or their pet, and that is what it is all about. I am not as knowledgeable as I would like myself....I doubt I ever will be....How boring life would be if I was....I would no longer have a interest in learning cause I would know it all, and then what? nothing left to do.... :-)

Every message board has its own personality, created by the participants at any given time. Message boards also evolve over time as well, changing as their membership changes. I post on 5 or 6 boards (not all snail-related), and each one goes through quiet phases where hardly any posting happens for a while, then things pick up again.
Members have real life issues going on that often prevent them from posting as often as they would like. I have on-going medical problems that often keep me away from my computer completely, not just away from this board. Plus I have my own snails who need my attention, and a cat with a thyroid tumor, plus a household to keep on track, plus a lot of other things. It would be really nice if I didn't have other responsibilities that interfered with my time on this site, but the world isn't perfect, alas. I do come here as early in the day as I can and I stay as long as I am able. Plus, I'm in California which is way behind most of the rest of you, time-wise. Sometimes it's in the wee hours of the morning for most of you before I can find time to give this site my full attention (late afternoon, my time).
In terms of getting answers to questions or information about an issue, this board (as well as the main website, petsnails.co.uk) is a goldmine of information for those willing to spend a little time searching and reading. For those who want a more chatty sort of environment, that is going to be hit or miss here, depending on which members happen to be active on the site at any given time.

I'd like to write more to this forum but I'm a little bit shy with my english language abilities. No one will correct my grammatical errors and so I won't learn to be better with my english. But it's very useful to read posts!

Tigu : This is a pet snail ( not an English language ) forum and many members contribute who are not English. People reading your post can see your location as Finland, so don't worry ! Besides I can't see anything wrong with your English.

Hi,
I always get answers to my threads. Sometimes I loose my threads and can't find them as well others threads that I follow. But when I do finally find them again I respond. Even if I can't give an answer to someones question I don't think it hurts to post back and acknowledge them, let you know you don't have an answer, wish I could help, just a hello or adding you have experienced something the same or similar and never found the answer myself and hope someone does come on and post their Knowledge. Or even asking a little more about what the person has posted to get a little more information and the next person viewing it might get a little more information and respond to the post.I've never had a problem with this site not working. Can't imagine the mess I'd be in if I hadn't joined this forum. vallery
