Hello everyone. I have been meaning to ask this for a very long time, just haven't got round to it.
You knwo the room that you keep you snails in, after a while of having your snailies, does it absolutely stink?! my bedroom reaks! Its so bad that i can't go in there sometimes, which is a problem seeing as i sleep in there. I keep the windows open, try to clean it with polisher as much as i can, but the smell wont budge! I'v had enough!
Any idea how to get wrid? Thanks x

If they're smelling that bad, then something isn't right. I've got eight tanks at present in a similar sized space and there's no noticeable odour....

Ok, i have just been a checked through them, and am trying to come up with some reasons ;;
Two of my snails recently died, and i didn't notice, so they were left in the tank for about a day. (i know this makes me sound real bad but i was busy with GCSE's and what not :S) The moss at the bottom of the tank, or the food.
Food gets cleared out once a day, and i am having to cut down on the amount i give them, due to money problems. the moss just smells like moss, and the tank. It could be the food?
Any ideas?

try cleaning the tank with lemon juice, and put a little in with water in a spray mister then spraying round the room.

I have one large viv, and 4 smaller snaily tubs, and the only time I notice any odour is when I have old food in there... And I am really sensitive to smells... I hate them!!!!!
Perhaps there is a little bit of food that a snaily dragged off somewhere?
I agree that lemon juice is a good natural cleaner, and you can always use a tiny bit of lemon or orange oil in a vaporiser to try and neutralise smells without the need for these industrial chemicals like Oust!!!!

It's possible the humidity is just high enough to cause a little mildew to grow -- not enough to be visible, but enough to start to create a smell.
ETA: Inside the tank, that is, not inside the actual room.

I have an issue with this too. I think coyote is right, if there isn't any decent airflow to help prevent mould growth than it's going to get really stinky real quick. I'm planning on "mickey mousing" a fan and a vent into the top of the aquarium I'm using to keep my snails in at the moment to get around this.

i find a blast with the hairdryer on the cool setting (holding well away from the tank of course) helps

My dining room doesnt smell but i definately noticed that after I put the cuttle fish in the tank what with the humidity & heat mat I could smell it when i open the tank lid, the cuttlefish is now a few days old & the smell is much less.
