I think my fulica has OCD... yes, OCD. After joining this forum and reading a lot of the topics on feeding I've been out and bought Avery a whole bunch of different seeds. To see what he prefers I've ground a spoon of each up and put them in his bowl, along with an unground pile and a mix mush (hemp, sesame and sunflower with pumpkin on the side). He SEEMS to be interested; while sitting on my hand he was quite happy to slurp up what I gave him (occasionally finding skin ). In his tank though, he shoves his face into the mush, then pulls it out and starts cleaning his foot and shell of residue. It looks very funny... some bizarre kind of snail contortionism. Now he's sitting there looking a little annoyed at his food, as though its mushiness offends him. Maybe he'll go rasp at the carrot >_> Are they normally this clean? He doesn't seem to care about being covered in substrate...or, yah know, slime. [EDIT] Heh, his annoyed face seems to be his "I'm pooing" face.

The fact that he cleans the food of but not the substrate is interesting. It could be he just wants to finish every last molecule of food. If he had a snail version of OCD, he'd probably clean the substrate off as well as the food residue. The food probably just tastes really good to him!

*snort* I dropped some seed mush on his head last night as I was putting it in his bowl. So, so funny. He lifted his head up and up and backwards trying to get at it (like a dog chasing it's tail). I tried to get a pic, but by the time I'd found the camera it had slid off down his back and he was curled round to get at it.
I really think it's a cleaning thing because he'll not eat everything in the bowl while he has some on his face or body.
