When a snail reaches old age, and before it dies of old age, how does its behavior change?
I've noticed a huge difference in Irony in the past week or so. The temperature has stayed the same in the tank, despite the drop outside, but he's stopped doing the usual venture to the top of the tank, or going to hide in the plant pot. He doesn't even move far from the food dish anymore. He'll come out when I feed them, much on some cucumber or carrot for a little while, and then go back to sleep. He also won't go far from the heat mat, which is on the same side as the food. This isn't normal for him.
I know for a fact that he is over 3 years old, but not sure over that, as I got him when he was already an adult. Could this behavior be because he's getting old? And stuff is starting to take its toll on him? Or does it sound like something wrong?
Thanks Katie x x

the tank may be colder that usual due to a drop in outside temp, does he improve within warm baths?

How long has he been like this? Snails will sometimes need a few days to rest after laying eggs. It looks like they're falling ill but they're not.
But yes, when they get old they will sometimes slow down before they die, but there are other reasons for them to slow down too.
