I just went to check on my octana, and the smallest of the three was just lying there in two pieces, still moving and everything. the top half of the shell was halfway across the jar, I have no idea how it happened, thick layer of coir, no hard objects in the tank or anything. I opened the jar and scooped him out, I couldn't leave him lying there, but I have no idea how it happened. I feel awful, poor little thing must have been in so much pain. I've added a picture so you can see what I mean, hes definately gone now, and i'm going to go bury him in a minute. I know some people might think its stupid to get upset over such a tiny snail, but I really am. poor wee Merry. - oh no, poor things alive still. what do I do? should I try sealing the end over or just freeze him?

That is a rather extreme damage she has suffered, I understand that you feel bad for her. Is there any organs or tissue left in the broken of part? In that case I dont think theres much more to do than to freeze her. Otherwise I think you could try covering the hole but I'm not sure if she can make it with so little shell left.
I would look for how active she was and try determine if she's in pain and then deside if the ethical thing to do would be to try mend the shell or to freeze her. I know it's a though desission and you have my sympaties.
Kind regards emil.

In the end I froze him, poor little thing had stuff left in the other half, and was just writhing around, so I am pretty sure was in pain. thanks
