I can honestly say I have never found one of those in the wild.

Ah, that'll be why; native to California and Oceania. I wonder if the British natives would be helpful in keeping tanks clear of various infestations? Probably not a good idea as a permanent fixture (conditions in snail tanks are all wrong for them), but as they are rather chunky and easy to spot, would it worth dropping a handful in for a day or so, just to see?
They do produce a toxin when threatened. It's totally harmless to humans (unless you ate a handful of them) but I have to wonder about snails. The toxin is an alkaloid but that's all I can find out about it...

I found one in my house in york, england. Looked it up and ound it eats mites
