hi all received a new snail today,he was wrapped in damp kitchen roll and put in a tub, which was wrapped in bubble wrap, then he was put in a box with polystyrene bits, but he had no food!! he was in the post for 2 days and when i took him out he was really cold ,so i gave him a warm bath then put him in the tank on a leaf of lettuce, been around an hour now and he still hasnt moved, dont think hes dead tho, poor snail, shouldnt he have been packed better than he was and with food for his journey? ive had other snails through the post and they only took one day,and had food and were brilliantly packed for their journey.sorry for the moan,im just shocked at how my snail arrived

Well I think moss is the best packing material tbh, ive never packed any snails myself and only recieved four, and they where packed in spagnummoss, wich they can eat if they would want too. Hope he will be okay, he is probably sleeping if it have been a chilly trip, just keep the warmth up in the tank and he should hopefully be up and at it.

Snails can survive about week with out food, so I think no crime has been done. In Finland we mostly back snails in peat, 'cos that pet shops moss is so expensive and everyone don't want to rip forest naked from moss neither.

I think it was the cold that has him retracted. It will take more than a day or 2 of steady heat to wake him up again. I've shipped snails packed in sphagnum moss atop a large piece of lettuce, and I usually add a little piece of cuttle too. IMO, moistened sphagnum moss will do a better job of keeping the snail damp than damp kitchen roll. I hope your snail is okay. Let us know how he's doing.
