I dont think you can do that, snails are as far as I know a quite small hobby, so there havnt been any medical studies on them. So at the moment I think that the people keeping snails are more knowledged that educated veterinarians.

I don't think there are any cat diseases that can be passed to snails. And there aren't any vets that will treat snails, as far as I know. Not in the U.S., at any rate. There is very little known about snail diseases. That's why websites like this are so valuable, so we can all share information and experiences with each other. I am looking forward to the day when a qualified snail vet joins this site and helps us out with our snails.

Yeah, I think coyote is absolutely right, unfortunately. In Germany, too, veterinary medicine concentrates on vertebrates (including diseases due to invertebrates, like nematodes f.e., transferred by snails). Discussions about snail diseases would only cause some sort of amusement (“Your Achatina has headache? Ha, ha”). So it´s our job to improve things. In many cases it would be helpful to make an autopsy after the death of our pet. This could dissolve a lot of questions, but it´s understandable, that most people can´t decide to do this unpleasant job. So we remain helpless in most cases. But, it´s up to us……. . And even if people did have the heart to cut in a passed on snail, how many people would know what to look for?

Right, only few people would do an autopsy. But in our forum one could try to put information and people together. I suppose that some users are quite experienced, already. And there are some detailed pages online about the normal anatomy of snails. The rest is experience. Nevertheless, it´s a long long way……….. . Ciao: wolf

hi there
there are actually some snail vets around now, i had to take 50 of mine to one in maidstone, uk. well they say they specialise and can treat snails but was a bit of a let down. he just poked them and said i think they are alive. would you like me to ultrasound all of them? couldnt give them anything to help them or explain what was wrong exactly. so if you find you need a snail vet, they are around but you would be better of asking for advice on here.
