Hiya all So, yesterday, i was out in the garden as it was nice and sunny, and dad decided to dig up a rather dead looking bush/plant thing. Unfortunately, this happens to be the bush that most of the Snails in the garden hide in. So i scavenged a few C. Nemoralis and Hortensis, and whilst i was walking back up to the house, i noticed a little snail on the steps, which had apparently fallen when dad was carrying the dead bush to the bin. Its a little Aspersa, with a cracked shell (some of its come off). Now, i know how to help him get better, lots of sparaying and lots of cuttle, yes? My queston is, you know the bit of remaining shell thats sort of hanging down from the rest, where the lip would have been, do i clip that off, or leave it? I'm just worried that it might drag whilst he's sliming around the tank? Katie x

i would just leave it it will repair its self but it might leave a slight rough surface but thats purely cosmetic it wont bother him/ her. if you clip it back it just means the little dude will hve to grow it back again hope this helps

If your on about the fleshy bit where it is uncoverd dont snip it off. Many people when their snails have a 3rd eye they snip it of but it hurts the snails and dont spray it too much it could ghet in organs and drown (happends to my snail ) If after a week he isnt looking too great and is in pain then just pop him in fridge to put him to sleep then in freezer to kill him but i think he is ok!

Unless that part of the shell seems like it's loose or about to come off anyway, I would leave it alone. If it comes off in the course of the snail's moving around in the tank, then there's not much you can do. But I would lean toward trying to preserve as much of the remaining shell as possible. Good luck with your little snailie!

Okay, i'll try to avoid clipping it back He seems happy enough, although seems to just like hanging in the corner of his tub, and i think i'll have to use liquid calcium, because he won't go near the cuttle ¬¬ And don't worry, i won't be putting him in the freezer, the open flesh is easily repaired

If you can grind up the cuttle into a powder, try sprinkling some on his food, in addition to the liquid calcium.
