Hi i haven't had any posts recently about my pomatias because i was going to sell them but then i realised that they were too cute! My Pomatias haven't been fed in one month yes i feel very bad just i was too attached to my groves aswell. they are always sleeping they rarely wake up. When i lift them up they wake up for about 5 hours then go to sleep unless i keep their light on how can i make them be more active with out using the light so m,uch. I dont know what they like so i fed them cucumber for a while then was told it is too watery the rest they all hated and have survied a month with out eating. Should i give them soked fish food? They love their enviroment but i really arnt sure they now have a big rock well fake rock. They love it so should i find some bark in woods then sterilize it then give it to lem? they seem more active when there is more stuff to climb on.

How come you didn't feed them for a month? Even if you did lose interest, there is no excuse not to feed them =/ And snails are mainly nocturnal, so if they sleep most of the day, that is normal. Most of the time I only see the shells of my snails, since they sleep the entire day and wake up around 20:00 - 21:00. Im not sure if you can change their day rythm to be honest, I did try that when my snails was new, by giving them a bath every day at a certain time, but they just went to sleep when I put them back into their tank, so I just let them be the way they are What you could do is to feed them other vegetables/fruits besides the cucumber, that way I got my snails to eat a bit more veggies. And yes, you can feed them soaked fishflakes, but not as a main diet.

I think it impossible change their rhythm animals have some kind of "biological clock" or sence inside of them example tortoises are really sleepy after summer or in autumn you have to put them in hibernation during winter, it's not natural keep them wake all year long. So I think you can't change rhythm of snails either and better not keep rhythm upside down. There's really many ups and downs there. Some snails go every winter to hibernation and you can't even stop it with humidity or some other ways. So wild caught snails example in even in good care of snail keepers don't stay wake in winter so keepers let them sleep month or two or longer because wc snails need their time to rest if they are naturally in place where they can't be up and moving because cold air and snow. So why they would change their behaviour in in side of terrarium because snails have so poor eye sight that they can't tell the difference when you move them from terrarium to other and some species only can notice different between dark and light time? and snails can't really time "oh well I'm in glass box now, know hibernating this winter.. Here's more about snails sences and everything else www.applesnail.net/content/anatomy/senses.phpIn nature theres sometimes so that there is not dark in night time but in not too much light neither. I think you should think again if you don't want to have night active species.. I just think it's impossible to change their day cycle. Snails just are that kind of they might not move day time at all and you cant do anything to it. Even try to keep them up with humidity, they get tired too so they sleep when they sleep so hard to try keep them wake longer than they like to be. Snails that are not active and sleeps all the time is usually sign of lack of care..

They love it so should i find some bark in woods then sterilize it then give it to lem? they seem more active when there is more stuff to climb on. If they want to sleep, then let them sleep. Snails aren't the most active creatures in the world - if you want a pet that's always up and about and fun to watch all the time, then try getting something else - though if you can't be bothered to feed them more than once a month, then maybe you shouldn't be keeping pets at all. Cucumber is fine for them as long as it's not all they're given to eat. It isn't incredibly full of nutrients but it's not bad for them. Try them with lettuce of different types, sweet potato, sweetcorn, courgette, tomato, mushroom, berries, pumpkin seeds, butternut squash, melon, banana, soaked oats etc etc etc. I'm sure you'll be able to find something they like other than cucumber. If you'd like something for them to climb on then try getting them some fish tank ornaments, or reptile tank decorations like fake branches and plants. Branches and bark from outside can be hard to sterilise well and tend to get mouldy after a while. Please remember to feed them more often and make sure their tank is kept nice and moist. If you don't want the snails anymore then I'm sure you can find someone to pass them on to who will look after them properly.

And species that are not native should not release to wild at all really stupid thing to to do that's why now a. achatina is in many palces pest and other species..

I agree with crossless, never ever ever release a foreign specie into the nature since it might very well become a pest. Thats why its illegal to keep giant african snails in the US, since they have been released there once and is now a burden for farmers. We got something like that in Sweden, for some reason we got spanish slugs in our fauna, and well, its being called ''murder slug'' in Swedish language

While Roman snails aren't native to England, they do live there and are classed as protected. So legally speaking it would be fine to let them go into the wild. Though York might be a bit too far North for them to survive the winter.
