I believe I have a fruit fly problem for the first time. I usually battle against sciaridae flies which hypoaspis mites seem to get rid of just fine, but I though I'd try covering the tanks with chiffon this time and hoovering up all the fruit flies from my ceiling to dispatch outside and see if that works.
The question is, where do I buy chiffon? I'm not really sure what it looks like or what it's commonly used for...Do I need to go into a scary fabric shop and ask for a yard or so? That part of retail is alien to me, so any encouragement is appreciated haha.
Also, if anyone has any other ideas how I can get rid of these little pests, let me know! My cockroaches and rats are also suffering in the pet room. What kind of damage can fruit flies do?

Well at those times i get a few flies in my tank, mostly fruitflies, i just take a clean glassjar, add a small piece of fruit in it, put some plastic above the opening and do a few holes in the plastic with a pen and place it in the tank After a few days there are more flies in the jar than there is in the tank.

You could try a fruit fly trap such as the ones here: www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Fruit-FliesOr, just go into a fabric shop and ask for chiffon. Measure the top of your tank, because you might not need a whole yard. The fabric shops I've been to will sell as little as 1/8 yard (4.5"), and will sell in 1/8-yard increments. Good luck!
