Yes, hard boiled egg! But only a little bit at a time, and then remove any uneaten egg right after. You don't want to let any extra sit in that warm humid tank, it'll get stinky and rotten really quickly! Thanks for your answer

I have done a search and couldn't find anything on this. I have chia seeds to plant in my hermit crab tank and was wondering if it would be safe to plant them in a land snails tank for them to munch? I'm getting it set up to take in some babies from a friend.
Thanks!

Anyone fed Persimmon? Two freshly wild-caught Deroceras slugs (Deroceras reticulatum + Deroceras invadens) died after I gave them it but it could be a coincidence/something else, it was the only new food. They have like white stuff around their mouth - oral prolapse? One survivor for now who I'm keeping an eye on, but I don't know if it ate any. I gave it to my Limacus flavus too and they seem fine but I don't know think they ate it, I removed it straight away after the others died. Not going to risk it again, might be worth avoiding, assumed it would be okay since not citrus or mentioned as dangerous.

A friend of mine feeds her GALS freeze dried Gammarus shrimps for protein and apparently they love them. Those are a little too big for my babies so I tried them on freeze-dried Daphnia (water fleas) and they go crazy for them. They were like £3.99 for a 100g tub from the local fish store, which will probably last years at the rate they currently eat them.

Can snails eat corn?

Hi zoeboe and helptoall!
I occasionally feed my snails defrosted corn, they like it a lot and it has never caused them any problems. I suggest you make sure that the grain's "skin" doesn't prevent them from acceding to its inside though. For the beets, I read that some people on this forum give them to their snails with no complications either, so I assume they're safe.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, since this is about the snails in my garden and not the snails in my house, but... I just recently got a large Foxglove for my garden and the local snails have been ALL OVER it. It's very cute. BUT, I know that foxgloves are poisonous to us mammals and wanted to make sure the snails aren't hurting themselves. I figure, with so much other greenery around, they would probably avoid it if it hurt them, but if they are, I'd like to know so I can move them off of it in the future.

Hi, no this wont harm your snails. Aspersa like to 'drink' the dew of fox gloves when the air gets humid or it has recently rained. I know this because I to have lots of fox glove growing around my garden. You may also find that they take a nibble from the leaves now and again, but they will avoid consuming the flower (although I doubt this is related to the toxicity of the plant and more down to the curiosity of the greenery as digitalis has quiet a "sweet taste", so I should imagine snails can smell that). Its nice to know that their are none-snail keepers who concern the selves over snail welfare. I have an allotment plot and know far to many people who take great pleasure in stamping on snails. I find that just by throwing down some lettuce and cucumber, the snails completely ignore my growing crops. (A little of topic but 'hey ho').

They have taken quite a liking to it, and seem to have migrated from my strawberries, which is certainly not a bad side-effect. I can see why they like it though, the large leaves tend to keep moisture better than anything else in my garden. Also, I do own Aspersas indoors as pets as well, haha. However, even before that I've always done my best to help them :'') Moving them out of high-traffic areas and the like. And I know others who are not snail owners who do the same! They are a fair few, but they do exist. Hmm... now I'm wondering if my indoor snails would enjoy some foxglove... Maybe I'd give it a try if I wasn't so darned sensitive to the stuff.

Great work ness! Is this stickied? I think it needs stickying. Can I throw a few in? Curly Kale is absolutely gobbled up by my younger snails and it is reasonably high in calcium (as well as a lot of other nutrients). That's a great idea. Thanks aerliss! Food and calcium in one veggie!

My really enjoy radish leaves, whatever I place in the food dish, it's always the first thing that gets eaten! They will also eat a bit of the radish itself, but not much.

Is it safe to feed snails flax seeds? Hi, it is safe to give your snails raw flax seed, however; larger species may swallow whole and the seed will "pass through" undigested which can be irritable le for the snail. Not entirely sure how appealing snails will find them though. If you wanted to find out, id be tempted to crush them under a spoon first.

Would Helix pomatia count as a large species?

Would Helix pomatia count as a large species? Difficult to say. It wouldn't suprise me if helix pomatia can pass them whole, but I guess their is only one way to be certain. It wouldn't be harmful to place 1 or 2 seeds on a slice of cucumber and see what happens. If the seeds get eaten, you could be looking at about 3 days to know for definite. They can definitely pass through tomato seeds, but these are smaller.

Does anyone know if GALS can have apricots? I can't think of any reason why not. Perhaps try giving them a small piece first to see if they like it, so you don't waste a whole piece of fruit if not!

Thanks I've noticed grape isn't on the list- I have fed snails both red and green grapes on numerous occasions throughout the years so they are fine - preferably halved and a few days old so they have sweetened
