'The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating' by Elisabeth Tova Bailey In a work that beautifully demonstrates the rewards of closely observing nature, Elisabeth Bailey shares an inspiring and intimate story of her uncommon encounter with a Neohelix albolabris —a common woodland snail.
While an illness keeps her bedridden, Bailey watches a wild snail that has taken up residence on her nightstand. As a result, she discovers the solace and sense of wonder that this mysterious creature brings and comes to a greater under standing of her own confined place in the world. Got my copy from ebay, it isn't published in the UK until 23 September so I got it from a US seller. Hardback, beautifully illustrated and well worth a read.

Now I am tempted to get mine on-line rather than wait to see if the bookstores in town will carry it.

Got my copy a few days ago...great read. The author was on NPR as well.
There's also some interesting info in the book about snail behavior and "care". Makes me wonder if I should rethink the foods I'm giving to the wild snail I rescued from a sidewalk.

I received the book today and will have a very (for German conditions) long train ride tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Got something to do then, except writing mollusc pages ;D Thanks again for the recommendation, coyote!
Regards Rob
