still alive and pigging out like crazy >.> i'm going to be posting some pics later because i'm not sure if his slime is drying out over where he's out of his shell or if it might be new shell growing o.o! either way Goku is still quite active and i'm hopeful ;D

Goku... hehe! I hope he's as strong as his namesake.
Sounds like he's doing better than most of the snails I've seen reported with mantle collapse. So fingers crossed.
As for the hanging upside down (aside from the fact all my little snails sleep on the lids); some have noted that it may take pressure off the lung during a mantle collapse. I don't suppose you would be able to hear the popping noise through the container would you? If it's not happening while he's hanging upside down it goes a step towards verifying the theory.

Give it a look, it looks weird.

lee I will definately have a look at those pics, thanks for telling me about them. I was having more issues getting a good pic of the area then I thought I was (filled up the memory card on my camera XD). aerliss Hmmm, I haven't actually heard the popping noise when he's been upside down, though to be honest it hasn't been as loud as it was the first day so I'll have to see. He ate less food last night, but there's still poop and he's on the cuttle as we speak ;D I'm not overly concerned about him eating less since that isn't abnormal and he's still active.

I've also been reading through past threads out of interest and snails that have suffered minor mantle collapse (such as yours) have been known to survive.
It also happened to one snail twice! Who proceeded to recover both times, I think there's hope.

Really? Do you remember how far back these threads were? I'd love to read them myself. I had read some but apparently I didn't read far enough back because all the ones I read ended with the snail being put to sleep. (I stopped reading, it was depressing and dampering on my hope ) I'll go through and see if I can find them in the mean time.

Will do Coyote. At the moment he's got himself half buried and I can see evidence of another place where he dug to the bottom of the container. I feel bad now since he's in such a shallow container and he can only maybe burrow an inch and a half, a little less. Is it possible for him to do the summer hibernation thing (forget the word for it right now XD) even if he's out of his shell as is? Do I let him if it seems he does? Or leave him be for as long as possible and wake him up only at dinner time? I can tell from his food consumption that he probably wants to, as he is eating less (still eating though). Dr.Rockzo did the same thing recently, eating a ton for almost a week straight and then just recently deciding to go back to sleep (found out it was prolly because he laid eggs ).

Aestivation, and no, they have to be in their shell to do that. If he's laid eggs make sure you feed him some high energy foods like spirulina powder (available off Dusks website) and sweet potato to give him some energy.

No, he was not the one that laid eggs and my snails normally get yam as part of their diet just not every day.

Yams are a type of starchy tuber, originally from Africa but also used in Asian and South American cuisine. There's a lot of different types and they have to be cooked before eating (except the Japanese ones).
However, Americans refer to sweet potatoes (which are from South America) as yams... just to be confusing XD

In this case, yam = sweet potato.
True yams are not found in most American markets, but somehow the term came into usage anyway.

Just thought I'd update you guys. He's still alive, active and eating but to a less degree than what he was. He has been burrowing quite a bit too. I think he misses his pals =\

So before I went to work, Goke was fine and active. Now when I came home from work I found him upside down hanging from the lid of his small enclosure (why?! >.<!) and looking so swollen it looked painful. While he is awake he isn't sliming around as he normally would, he's just staying in the spot I he was in. What do I do? He ate well last night and has been doing so well but now he looks half dead =[
I've managed to get some of the swelling to go down but he is only moving his head around still, not his body thus far.
edit: It almost looks like he's torn the mantle again as the new part of the shell he was developing no longer comes over to cover all of mantle.
I remember reading something about tea being soothing for their skin? what type of tea was that?

Herbal tea, I believe or aloe vera is said to have certain soothing qualities when administered via bath water.
Make sure the tank is very small, small enough so he really doesn't have to move to get very far. If you could make sure he doesn't hang from the lid because it really seem it's not a good idea for him to keep climbing.
Best of luck Red.

I've heard it was green tea that people used for their snails.
One of my snails had a bad reaction to aloe vera, so I would be cautious in advising its use.
