Following on from recent discussions with Fabrizio we're considering approaching Shell Collectors organisations for several reasons...
1. To share information. Some shell collectors record and share data which is useful to shell collectors and scientists alike, and also would be of interest to snail enthusiasts. Information such as shell data, and I am anticipating general population and location observations plus more. Likewise we may also have data of interest to themselves, and some collectors may be interested in learning some facts about the snails as an entire creature, and may inspire enthusiasm and care for living snails. You never know, there may be some budding snail-keepers out there.
2. Those of us after particular species may be able to find willing shell collectors who may send some live snails on to us for breeding and for establishing (hopefully) healthy captive-bred populations. In return we could send them empty shells when the snails die of natural causes, to those collectors willing to wait.

Dear (?)
I am contacting you on behalf of a group of snail enthusiasts, who - like yourselves - appreciate the beauty, form and diversity of shells.
Our interests are in living snails and many of us keep and breed various species. We feel that your group and ourselves may be able to share information about snails in general, their habitat, observational and scientific data, as well as keep each other informed on the population status of various species.
Also we are considering the possibility (if it can be arranged) that perhaps some of your group may be able to send live snails of species of interest to us, so that we may attempt to establich a healthy and thriving captive-bred population, in return for us to send empty shells back when the snails have died from natural causes.
Any thoughts or interest in this proposal would be gratefully received.
Thank you - (however we should sign it - names and forum name?)
