I have been the keeper of 2 x Achatina Fulica for one whole week, and have found it all rather stressful so far ! First the snails were inactive so I went and bought a heat mat and polystyrene. This worked well and they are now up and eating at least once a day But since warming up the tank I can't get the humidity above 40%. I have attached a photo of the sort of tank I have. I believe I need to cover some of the holes in the lid. How much should I cover, and what should I use ? Does it go on the inside or the outside ? Thank you for any help because I really want to get this set up properly. Attachments:

Place some plastic wrap on fauna or but some thick towel on the lid. I think you could cover most of them air always changes when you open the lid and change food spray terrarium etc. Maybe you should at least cover holes on sealing and longer or shorter side too and then see if it's enough or too much.

I have 2 small fulicas in one of these and first I used to put a magazine on it to keep moisture in but now I've gone all 'professional' and have laminated a sheet of paper with a snazy snail pic on it and as it's waterproof it does the job brilliantly

lol, mikaela, that's a great idea XD Start by covering 2/3 of the lid with something (towel, magazine, cling film) and just work from that, adjusting it until you can keep the humidity nice and high. Keeping live plants in the tank will also help (with humidity and oxygen/carbon levels), but the faunarium might be a bit small for that. Putting in a water bowl will help too. I put one next to the heat mats and one in the opposite corner; hot bath and cold bath XD You probably don't want to spend too much on sorting out the faunarium (making the adjustments LOOK nice, for example) as your GALS will likely outgrow it within a year... or you'll become totally obsessed and have to buy more pretties (happened to me )

Thank you for all your replies I have tried clingfilm, but it's not sticking and doesn't seem to make any difference. I'll give some of the other ideas a go. I like the laminated sheet of paper idea in particular ! I bought a shallow water bowl, but there's not a lot of room in the tank for it - I'll move things around to fit it in

That's really kind of you !! I do have an A4 laminated piece here already from something else, and have put it on top, but it's the wrong size and hangs over the sides, but doesn't fit the whole length ! Is yours a different size ? If so, yes please, I'll PM you my address as I don't have my own laminater. Have you stuck yours down ? There seems to be gaps still for moisture to escape, and it's still not over 50%
