I'm not sure about the laws in Brazil regarding African snails, can anyone advise me or hopefully send me a link to some information?

That's true Rik I also try to vary my snails' diets too, but they are a bit picky and try to wait for their favourites! Mine really love courgette, sweet potato, and romaine lettuce. I try to feed them in cycles while feeding them something different at least once every week. They like carrots and apples but they don't really fill up on it! Same goes for bananas. I found these by searching in google "Nutrients in ..." the dots of course being any vegetable of your choice. The percentages apply to humans but it's a good indication of which vegetables have higher amounts of certain nutrients.

The chance of cross breeding really is tiny, a lot of people keep them together and I've only ever seen one person selling them, and I think wrong identification may have come into play there. Archachatina like margies are a definite no when it comes to breeding with any Achatina so they are a good option too.

I think he is an Achatina fulica. Any other Achatina or Archachatina species you can keep with him. I'm selling some baby Achatina albopicta if you are interested, they are only small babies at the moment though.

Hi! I'm not currently at home so I can't post any pictures, here is the link to my ebay listing. r.ebay.com/eZ1sbS There are some pictures on there. The snails in the picture are a little bigger than the ones I have left as the bigger ones have already been sold, but still plenty of littler ones left!

I'm 99% sure that they are fulicas, I'm not sure how do go about discussing this with the seller. She has told me that she bought them as babies and were told that they were reticula... Has anyone had to deal with this before?

I bought these snails as A. reticulatas, but I'm not 100% sure. I had some baby reticulatas before and these new snails I just bought do not have the same light foot with a dark head. The camera light makes it look as though their feet are lighter than their head but they really are mostly brown like fulica. The shells don't seem the same either but I know that can vary. Would if someone can confirm for me.

Oh no! It's a good sign that he's still out and about. You might want to s try placing the missing chunk back where it's supposed to go and it may reattach. Don't feel bad about it, it was an accident and accidents happen! Just yesterday I turned around to make some food for my snails and I heard a huge cracking sound, one of my tigers had made a bee line for the edge of the table (in record speed too... -.-) and had fallen off onto the stone tiles. Somehow there was absolutely no damage and he was out and about straight away, but it really scared me and I feel bad for turning my back to them! Don't worry I think it happens to everyone at some point.

I've had the best luck by leaving a big romaine lettuce leaf in there so that the babies can both hide under it and eat some without moving too far. Sometimes they don't really go for the other food I put in there but Im not sure why.

Just a few days as I checked again when I noticed that my pregnant snail no longer had eggs in it, I wonder what causes the colour difference? I just hope that my snail doesn't have an infection that is being passed to the eggs. I'm freezing them all at the moment just in case.

Not too long ago I made a post asking if anyone knew why my albopicta's eggs were turning red. It made sense that they were just breaking down because they were infertile and had been in a damp tank for over a month.
But yesterday I found that my snails had laid some bright yellow clutches (the eggs have always been a creamy white before) and today they have red and even blue splotches on them. Could the snails have a problem that is causing the eggs to be infected with bacteria before they are even laid? These eggs are only a couple of days old and the tank is definitely not too humid.
I'll post a picture as soon as I can.

A good quality fish food can be good, but beware that the cheaper ones are made mostly of cereal. My favourite option is just a boiled egg cut in half mine go crazy on it. Some people give thier snails small quantities of meat but mine don't ever seem to want to eat it!

I've noticed that younger snails that are still growing go absolutely crazy for the cuttlefish but then mine, like yours, aren't half as interested as they used to be now they've reached full size. If your snails are fully grown then this is likely the cause, but they shouldn't be rasping at their own shells... I'm not sure how to get them to stop that but there are loads of other members that have had this problem and hopefully they will chime in with some advice! All I can say is keep dusting the food with a little bit of calcium and make sure that the snails are getting some protein as well as they also need this to build their shells and keep them healthy. Good luck

Wow thank you so much for all the information! I tried some google research but I couldn't find very much at all, I have an empty deep tank at the moment that I think will be perfect for giving them room to dig. I'm really glad to hear that they don't bite each other, as that has always made me a bit afraid of looking after slugs! I'd absolutely love a couple of these if you're all right with that Would you like to send me your paypal details and how much you'd like for postage? x

What a lovely picture Id start egg duty right away in case they have mated before when you weren't looking. Weekly searches should be enough. Hope this helped at all!
