I need a bit of help guys! I have an african land snail called Gary. This morning I've noticed that a part of his shell has started to come away - the part nearest the foot. The bit thats coming off is VERY thing and seems to almost be "new shell" is that makes sense? What do I do? He seems to be happy and has cuttlefish which he eats daily. He also eats a wide variety of fruits and veg - faovurites being mango, cucumber, spinach and strawberries. What's going on?

The newest part of the shell is the most fragile and seems to break of flake off a lot more easily than the rest of the shell. Keep up with the cuttle and maybe try another form of calcium too, just to be on the safe side. Fingers crossed for him, and let us know how he's doing.

wouldn't hurt to add 10% powdered oyster shell into it's diet for a bit, and do you suppliment nutrient uptake with like baby iguana food or fish flake/pellets?

Yes its perfectly normal to see some flaking from time to time especially around that part of the shell. Keep up with the calcium. Cuttle, calcium carbonate, chalk and oyster grit are all suitable and the fish food is always greatly accepted by most snails. Do not try to remove any flaking shell, allow it to fall off naturally.
