Gonna try to post my backlog of pics. I got a ton of sluggy and snaily lovey dovey pics, among others, lol! ;D Here's some pics of my adorable leatherleaf slugs, also known as poffertjes (small pancakes). They've grown so big in a few months time it's amazing! I think they're now bigger than the information on them gives as their maximum size. But they eat like crazy, and now for the second time I caught them mating. This time I did not have to interfere to get good pics as they're in a temporary mini tank awaiting for their proper home to get cleaned up. Also, they do slug piles. And slug nests. I'm trying to figure out the anatomy of these guys. I took the above pics some 20 mins before the next ones, and noticed that these guys have veeeery peculiar anatomy... apparently their genitals are separate, male at one end of the body and female at the other. Here you can see what I mean: The poopies are from the top sluggy, as this species poops from the very end of their body. Bizarre! Slug nest. Inside slug's nest.

I bought the lovely leatherleaves (Laevicaulis alte) in late October I think, from CrypticDoll. I'm looking for other related species now, the Jamaican pancake slugs and what is sold by name velvet slugs. Veronicellidae-slugs have become my new favourites. They seem quite easy to keep happy, they're social and so weird compared to other slugs! And cute, even if they kinda look like turds lol! Their faces are so pretty.

A bit on the anatomy I just observed in a mating couple... the male genital appears to be located below the mouth (!!) and the female bits are located about midway the body on the right side. Trying to get some pics.

Oh wow. Just had a shock as I picked up the piece of bark in Alfie's tank! A happy shock! Though Alfie looks quite worn out and not very happy after putting out all those eggs... I had NO idea zie was preggers. That's a lot of eggs, oh wow.. Attachments:

Oh, wow! That's a lot of eggs! Poor fecund Alfie is really gonna need his rest after that. I can't help thinking that they resemble the pull chains that are on lamps and ceiling fans. And they look exactly like the egg chain laid by one of my slugs.

Alfie looked so pathetic last night, like in the first pic. All limp and tail even flipped around like zie was in pain and not able to move zirself. But zie is back to normal now. I put some soil on top of the eggs, since the sluggy didn't bury them. I guess zir plan was to lay eggs under a rock or something like in nature, but I do need to move this bark around so the eggs are safer under the soil. Now I can't wait for them to hatch!

This here is the vestigial shell of a young Deroceras invadens. It came off a dead baby that I just found. I wasn't sure if the species had vestigial shells but now I know. Topside. Attachments:

Sad news. Alfie is dying. Zie seemed just fine last evening but I just took a peek and zie was laying in a sad pile in the place where I put zem last night next to food. Zie is limp like a wet rag, zir eyestalks are withdrawn and zie doesn't have the strength to extend them at all. I put zem on top of the bark now to rest. Thanks. I really wonder what happened. Zie was the peak of health before laying, and after that went down in just one day. Either something went wrong with the laying or this species only ever lays once and then dies naturally. Some slugs are like that. I'm wishing the latter, actually.

So Sorry pimkunicorn , It's terrible. It was awful when I lost Mumma L. maximus after her 2nd batch of eggs. She was so healthy herself. I can imagine how you feel. vallery xx

Thanks. Alfie's eggs show signs of development, having turned a little bit less crystal clear like slug eggs do in the first stages. Hoping it's real development and not spoiling. I just found the biggest D.invadens adult I've ever seen. Zie was feeding on my slug buffet outside, happily munching on a piece of rotting corn. I bet zie has been to that buffet many times before judging by the size... the slime residue on my hand was also spectacularly sticky. Had to rub it many times with dry towel to get it off, when normally these guys' slime comes off on the first wipe. Sent from my GT-I9300 using proboards Attachments:

What a big handsome slug! Don't you just love it when you find one that's freakishly large? I always hope that they have babies.

Wow I just noticed this guy has a different foot from the others! The big guy has a dark stripe that the others lack. Do I have a different Dero slug here? Hmm... Sent from my GT-I9300 using proboards Attachments:
