So today I picked up one of my six C. nemoralis' and he must have decided I tasted yummy, because he started trying to eat me! My other snails did the same too, when I picked them up. I couldn't have had anything on my hands, I had just washed them. It didn't really bother me, it was kinda cute but I was just wondering what might make them want to nibble me? Hopefully they haven't turned in to zombie snails with a taste for human flesh

This is very common in my experience. There must be something in human skin that they need somehow, I think. I like it and take it as a sign of their apreciation of me, although it probably is just some kind of instinct

Every snail does this the first time they come in contact with human skin in my experience. Some even more often. Dry skin flakes are essentially protein so maybe they indeed feed on you!

I've been rasped by my aspersas off and on. Sometimes I think they tasted traces of something on my hands.

I've had the stripy garden snails (brown lipped, etc.) rasp me when I've held them much more often than my GALS have, but it does happen. My guess was that they were after minerals / salt traces as they do it more when it's been hot and I've been sweating. On saying that, I always wet my hands before handling snails when I'm hot (partly to cool my hands, partly to get rid of harmful secretions) so perhaps it isn't that at all.

Huh, I wonder what it would be like to be rasped on by a gals. Since they are so big, it would feel cool...

It feels a bit like scraping your nail gently against your finger It's not painful, but it can make you wonder if it's about to get painful when you're not used to it!

I can certainly feel the tigers rasping, as Ness says it doesn't hurt it feels a bit strange, like a tickle which could get uncomfortable if it continued!

Penny rasps my fingertips if I've been handling tomatoes. That actually can feel quite horrible, as if she's rasping on the nerve endings.

I think you may be right about snails nibbling the first time they come into human skin, pinkunicorn! I had a couple in my hand today that I'd picked up from the garden and while most stayed in their shells one popped out for a right good munch. When I moved him from my hand he stretched out with his mouth open to go again!
