Cepaea nemoralis which also goes by the names banded grove snail or banded garden snail. Big Rose is a five banded snail, they can have 0 up to 6 bands.
This is my first pet snail, which ended up coming into my flat on a hosta plant that I had brought in for the winter so I ended up keeping her. I called her Big Rose as she has a rose color to her shell, others I have collected have yellow or white colors.
Big Rose is called a cepaea nemoralis due to her dark brown aperture lip which is at the part of the shell where her head comes out. Big Rose is a five banded cepaea nemoralis.
She has had several clutches of eggs which hatched within three weeks. She had from 40 to 80 eggs in a batch.
For some reason Big Rose has much darker skin then my other cepaea nemoralis.
You will notice some markings on her shell, this is were she was eating her own shell for calcium, they will do this. Until I learned more about her actions and found out about their need for calcium I provided pieces of brown egg shell plus powdered brown egg shell for them all to eat and Big rose stopped eating her own shell. She enjoys eating English cucumber and recently a little bit of kale leaf.
She is the only Rose cepaea nemoralis I have. She is a Toronto, Ontario Canada garden snail and should live 7 to 8 years. I am posting a picture of her on her own and another picture of her by a Canadian nickle to show her size.
Hopefully with the help of rosiesnail2 and everyone on the forum I can get information about my Toronto Ontario Canadian snails.
I would really appreciate your help.
Thank you
