Hi there, I wonder if anyone can give me some advice? I have a year-and-a-half old Fulica who seems healthy and is eating well etc. However, when I brought it out it's tank today I noticed one of the eye stalks looks slightly bent right at the end and the 'pupil' has disappeared from the eye. I can see a black dot just below the bulbous eye part of the stalk. I don't think he can see from it and I was wondering if anyone has any idea what might have caused this? Could it have been from a fall? He spends a lot of time on the lid of the tank, so I'm not sure if he could have fallen off this, although there's nothing solid for him to have hit. It hasn't happened when he's been out of the tank as it was fine the other day when he was last out. Again he seems otherwise healthy so I hope it's nothing sinister. : ( Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the eyestalk is not fully extended out, i.e. it's just slightly retracted, causing the bend at the end. It could be slightly irritated by something, though probably not much, else the chances are it would retract the eyestalk further. Eyestalk problems often resolve themselves, often quickly, but as for the eyesight a snail can only make out brightness from darkness. A blind pet snail is not at a disadvantage, as their main sense is smell. I wouldn't worry, but please kieep us updated.

My snail also had this problem, although I'm not sure which one as it seems to have sorted itself out quickly! I hope his eye gets better soon, it seems likely
