I haven't a clue hun. You're best contacting your authorities on this matter, or even some place like the insect museum up at Cape Tribulation, Queensland to see if they know (the guy there's been collecting for years and may have a good idea on the legalities of live imports. Personally I'd try contacting them and the Aus government.
I understand New Zealand have giant millipede species. Although it doesn't necessarily mean that you'd be able to get any shipped to you, but if allowed then in terms of practicality they'd have less of a distance to travel and would likely cost less to ship. There's a butterfly house in Auckland, also keeps other species. Again they may have some advise for you perhaps?
Sorry for my ignorance, but does Aus have giant millipedes?
I know the African Gigas species is considered the largest, and I hope you are successul in lergally obtaining them, but if all else fails perhaps you could find some other species nearer to home x

No. Gigas are an African species, but there are very many giant millipede species and I wondered if there are any in Aus that you could keep in the even of not being able to import Gigas any into Aus?

Possibly because if they were to escape they could set up permanent home in Aus and affect the ecology.... Here's a list of native species. I have no idea how large they are, but there's some lovely species.... lifeunseen.com/index2_list_155.phpLike I say, it may be worth emailing the bloke who owns the insect museum up in Queensland Cape Tribulation, he's spent many years dedicated to finding insects and other inverts and may be able to tell you which are the largest in Aus and how you may be able to get hold of them. Sometimes you can buy live critters from educational suppliers for use in school curriculums. You never know your luck.. it's worth trying various places.
