Has anyone ever had a problem with keeping snails and worms together? I've been keeping mine togther quite well for about a year. However, today I ntoiced that 2 of my snails actually had worms INSIDE their shells! The worms have obviously wriggled in through the snails breathing hole, and then been trapped! My Rodatzi seems to be carrying on as normal but my jade has retracted and really doesnt seem good! I've never had anything like this happen before or ever heard of it happening! I dont think I'll be able to get the worms out, so I dont think I've got much choice but to leave the snails and hope the worms find their way out again?

they are tiger composting worms, I put them in the soil so I wouldnt need to clean it anymore, and it's been going fine for the last year or so, but just today 2 of my snails have had worms climb inside their shell through the breathing hole... The worms are completely inside and theres no way of getting them out, I hope they manage to wriggle out before they die in there!!! I dont understand why its been fine for so long and just all of a sudden this happens? :/

Oh! No I've not heard of that happening, I guess it was not intentional by the worms, just a case of wriggling into the wrong place. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had this problem. I only have worms in one of the tanks, with a smaller species, so this hasn't happened, though getting into the breathing hole of larger species has never occurred to me.
Good luck to the Jade and the worm! I can't think of anything to be done except to try to keep them active, as this will encourage them to open their breath holes more often.

I have no idea what happened to the worms in the shells... it was weird that after a year of nothing (as far as I know) like this happening, and then all of a sudden 2 snails at the exact same time get worms wriggle inside their shells..
The rodatzi seemed absolutely fine, he didnt seem to care that the worm was in there at all, the last I saw of the worm was it crawl right up DEEP inside the shell near the tip, but the jade really didnt like the worm in there and started making loads of slim and trying to retract but the worm being in there stopped it a bit, I washed the jade and put her back, she was sort of acting normally, there wasn't anything esle I could do so I left them for a couple of hours and then checked on them, and the worms couldnt be seen at all, I dont know if they died deep inside the shells, or whether they eventually managed to find their way out again, but both the rodatzi and the jade are fine now... its just so strange...

This is something that I have been pondering since I thought about putting worms into the tank with my GALS. Would you mind keeping us updated on the effects on the snails? | Would be a lot of help to me and to other people.

I have worms in with my British snails and haven't had this problem, although their air holes are quite a bit smaller. Are you sure it was the tiger worm going up there? Is there anyway some kind of parasitic worm could have gotten into the soil and infected your snails? How big were the worms? Did they look like normal tiger worms? I would assume that if they were tiger worms they would wiggle around, realise there was no food or earth in there, then proceed to find the exit and work their way back round to the air hole again to escape. I hope they don't cause any problems for your snails! How are they now?

Are they just the type of worms that you can buy on Amazon? If your snails are ok, then I am going to buy them.

Forgive me if this is silly since it's in a breathing hole, but don't worms normally come out of a hole if water gets in it? Im not sure if that could be accomplished w/o drowning the poor snail though. Also, what about those tiny instruments with a loop on the end that Dr's use to extricate ear wax?
