The other day I accidentally set two of my three aspersas on a hot date! I gave them a little treat of calcium powder and fish flake mash. I put little bits of it around the tank and put two snails to each bit, like a meal
Little did I know as they ate their way through the food and got closer to each other, they'd have a little snaily kiss, then start frantically biting each other, the little white bits would pop out and they would be snail kissing for about 3 hours! they didn't actually mate in the end, but so far every night since this I've seen them replaying this behaviour, so I'm assuming they will soon!
Anyway, I have a few questions about my snails:
1: My Oxychilus alliarius have been mating and laying eggs, how long do they usually take to lay the eggs after mating and how long does it usually take them to hatch?
2: Is there any way to tell the difference between discus rotundatus and cochlicopa lubrica eggs? Are lubrica particularly hard to breed? The Discus snails have been at it like rabbits but the lubrica don't seem too interested in it.
3: I've read that Lauria cylindracea give live birth, is this true? would they just have one baby at a time? Would I even be able to see the young, or would they be too small.
4: How long after mating do cepaea and aspersa snails usually hold the eggs for?
5: just how fragile are snail eggs? I had an accident with the oxychillus tank and it got tipped over, nothing huge, but a bit of the soil was dislodged and exposed the eggs, do you think they might survive?
Any answers would be REALLY appreciated Thank you in advance! x
