Thank you I feel like i'm being too enthusiastic when i see all of those rare and special species all over this forum.. and i'm showing off with my common snails XD But I can't help it, common or not to me they're special <3 A new Cepaea nemoralis I found today!! I named it Pirate, because he is one-eyed.. I found this tiny one too (I called it Loki)..it might be Oxychilus or something like this.. I'll probably release him because he's too small and I keep looking for him all over the tank lol xd By gunshotglitter at 2012-05-16 By gunshotglitter at 2012-05-16

Looks like a golden brown variant of Limax maximus. I also recently got one. Looking for another to get babies. Mine is white-based, though. And yours looks a bit more active. Mine is a bit of grumpy sort of personality.

Well the first day he was just hidden under the food plate and didn't even come out to eat in the evening. (Maybe he did during the night though) But now he looks like he's exploring his tank, he eats a lot and squirms all around ;D Funny thing is how slug's slime is so much stickier than snail's, I didn't know that

Wow what a cute bunch! I don't love slugs as much as snails, but that is one beautiful slug you have there. You've taken some really good pictures, too.

Thank you shaydeesnail, I didn't think I would like slugs either, until I found this one ;D And update: my Cepaea babies started to hatch this morning!! XD I wasn't expecting it so soon, Pirate layed eggs only a week and a half ago so this is a huge surprise! ;D By gunshotglitter at 2012-06-03

So cute, congradulations ;D They probabaly hatched so quickly because of the temperature... Im guessing your house is pretty warm???

Yes, during the last week it's been around 21-24°C in the room they're in.. that's the coldest room in the house and I don't have much possibility to cool it down. It's a lot hotter outside though. This is my first hatch and I'm so excited!! ;D

A cute pic I took today: An adult Cepaea, wild caught, and one of his babies, born in captivity. I separated the babies, but a few of them must have hid in the adult's tank so I decided to let them there to see what happens. They seem to be doing fine By gunshotglitter at 2012-06-15

I managed to take a good shot of my Cepaeas mating. At first I thought it was poo lol Sorry it's so.. explicit but it's been a while I've been trying to catch them in the act and somehow I always failed before, I guess they were shy ;D

I love the fact there is a baby minding his own business while mom and dad get busy. That is a very good pic of the anatomy BTW. You could submit it to Wikipedia's page for this species. Even got two different shell colourations there.

I never thought Cepeas have black genitals, btw. Every snail I've seen has had white and it is a bit weird to have pigment in tissue that doesn't need pigment. Pigment is generally reserved for tissues in contact with sunlight, UV-radiation. Internal organs get their colour from body fluids etc.

I saw my Aspersas mating many times and their genitals were always white or very pale colour. I guess it goes with the flesh colour, one of them has a black body.

That could be yeah. I wonder how other dark bodied species are. Im very big on all things Biology so these details get me going, lol... perhaps i will start a poll: "what colour are your pet snail's genitals? And, what is the species of your pet snail's and the colour variant of his/her shell and foot/body?". Yeah, im weird like that.

Heheh, nice pics of Ludwig! He's pretty long. My slug, Teleporter (weird name, I know), is about a fourth his size.

Somehow I managed to miss that awesome Cepaea mating picture when you posted it, it's really good though, I've never seen a photo with such detail. I wouldn't worry about the colouring, some of my Cepaeas had black genitals while others had white. London and Ash are really gorgeous, I'm buying 3 snails from Evil Angel myself on Thursday! I'll be really pleased if they're as pretty as yours

The bigger one is 3 months old and the tiny one hatched a few days ago I think they're both yellow unbanded, not sure about the smaller one yet. Attachments:
