I tried all I could... He basically had slight deep retraction and I was looking after him but then schoolwork overwhelmed me and I forgot about him for about a week. When I checked on him again, he was looking wierd, so I went outside and smelled him... At least I know what a dead snail smells like now... What's worst is that it was kind of my fault for forgetting about him... I thought he would be fine for a few days as my previous snails were okay with it... I regret my decision now... RIP Droopy, I tried all I could to keep you alive.

Aw poor guy! It's okay though, sometimes it doesn't matter what you do and sick snails demand quite a lot of attention, I've had to bring one to work with me before to keep an eye on it and make sure it was eating. My coworkers think I'm batty.
He's probably snailing up to cucumber heaven with a yet unnamed one I said goodbye to yesterday. I wonder if snails believe in reincarnation or an afterlife! Snail guardian angels would be so cute =)

I really shouldn't have taken him in when I saw him about two centimetres inside his shell, I knew he was gonna die, but I just really wanted to bring him from the brink of death again. I forgot to bury him, I hope the backyard won't stink, another thing I worry about. I don't want to touch him now, though, because he probably stinks.

Hi geckonator,
I would leave Droopy were s/he lays for now. The soft tissue will disappear fast enough and you can either leave the shell there as a memorial or move it or even wash it out and keep it. I am sorry you feel so bad. It really wasn't your fault and definitely not intentional. Droopy knows that. A Big Hug. vallery x

I gently picked his shell up and he's almost gone, there's just a little bit left. I just realised, he was a gardener. Munching down the weeds until his dying day, then fertilising with his body. I'm gonna keep his shell and grow a plant in it.
