Due to the possibly mildly NSFW nature of the topic I have tried to word it as neutrally as possible, since content filtering computer programs sometimes can't tell between animal reproductive stuff and internet pr0nz.
Anyway, due to seeing a picture of gunshotglitter's Cepeas mating I got curious if the pigmented organs they are displaying are a common feature of gastropods. Here's the original topic so you see what I am referring to: petsnails.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=snailpictures&action=display&thread=11850 (page one, scroll down to the mating picture; I dunno how to link to individual posts in topics)
The poll options mean:
- pigmented foot: the slimy body has any colour other than white. If you can specify the colour, that would be great.
- pigmented shell: the shell has any colour other than very pale cream/beige. Rodatzi-style shells are albino shells. Please specify the colour if you can.
- pigmented R.Os.: short for pigmented reproductive organs. When you see your pets mating, the reproductive organs are the things that protrude from the right side of the animal's head. If they are any other colour than white, please specify what colour.
- for slugs, ignore the shell colour option and just look at the body and organ colour.
Pick the combination that most fits your snail or slug from the offered options. You can choose as many as you like, if you have more snails/slugs. If you'd like to specify the number of each colour combination you have that would be nice. The poll does not allow for choosing the same option many times, I think.
As the last thing, if you could post the name(s) of the species and which poll options they match, I'd be thankful!
The goal of the poll is to see if there is a link between body pigmentation and reproductive organ colour. It's a bit weird in my opinion to have pigment in an organ that the animal keeps protected from sunlight most of the time, since pigment's function is to protect from UV-radiation... normally internal organs get their colour from body fluids!
Thanks for participating in discovering new things about our beloved little slimers.
