Hi all, I was hopeing someone may be able to answer this because a convercation with a contact has got me a little confused. I have always been under the impression that Liguus was a non-English spelling for Lignus.. My contact tells me that Lignus and Liguus are two different species all together. is this correct? thankyou in advanced for any answers. quote from contact: Ok, but Liguus come from Cuba and Florida, and Lignus from Africa. They are in pattern very diferent, colors to. Shell shape of Liguus more long and thin...

Yeah they are completely different. Lignus are in the family Achatinidae, and are from Africa, Liguus are in the family Orthalicidae and are from North America. With Latin names there's only ever one correct spelling as far as I know, so they can be recognised universally.

Lignus and Liguus are similar sized shells ( around 50mm or 2" ) but as Kevin mentioned they come from completely different families. Both are arboreal ( living to trees and shrubs ); Lignus ( on the LEFT ) lives only in West Africa, Liguus ( on the RIGHT ) is from Florida, Cuba and the Caribbean.
