This has to be stopped!
I've posted on several youtube videos and flagged them. Several people just wrote "its a snail get over it", but the guess what? I won the argument! The youtube video was deleted for violating the terms!
I think we should start some sort of uprise. Lobster lovers did, so why can't we? Even though I don't keep snails anymore, I'm still anti-cruelty! These magnificent creatures have most probably lived in the world MUCH longer than we have, yet they're considered pests? I think we should comment on these videos and tell them exactly what they're doing. Pouring salt on a snail is like pouring acid on a human.

That's great, I'm so glad that you won the argument, I'm going to try and flag a load too

I agree, it's high time we took a stand for the creatures that aren't treated fairly. Snails are fascinating creatures and really deserve more thought and respect.

Oh they finally start actually following their own ToC? Animal abuse IS banned. Snails are animals. They also prohibit videos of torturing cows, so it shouldn't matter if the animal in question is a food animal. I've sent them email with this exact argument, that they are enforcing their own rules inconsistently if they do not delete the salt videos. I'm very glad to hear they finally got their act together and don't let individual moderators make inconsistent calls.
I do recommend still pointing out the above argument when you flag a torture video, in case a moderator "forgets" the rules...

I took a few snails in because I just couldn't resist an albino-looking one even though it may just be sun bleached. I took two in officially, but one of them is so tiny I'm afraid it'll get out of the tank! This thought made me think: Snails have to produce young to live. Humans have to produce young to live. Snails don't harm us. We harm snails in an extremely cruel way. They've probably lived far longer than us. We kill them anyway. They eat to live. We eat to live. THINK, people! Would you like to have acid poured over you? This is what snails get with salt. We should copy-paste that around and hopefully people will back us up. More than likely they'll just comment rudely But it's worth a try.

The guy who posted the "salt on a snail, it works!" and "salt on snail 2.0" video (which made me go throw up and cry a little when I saw how many snails he had gathered and never watched the video), anyway, this guy blocked me after I made one comment defending the snails and sent me a message telling me he would not be taking it down.
If we can get everyone to report his videos maybe youtube will do something about it?
This HAS to be changed.

Right now I'm not on my own computer. I'm probably gonna spam it with several accounts.

Dont spam or break the rules please. They have IP cheicks. Best to just report it and send a calm and polite email to YouTube customer service about them breaking their own terms by allowing hosting of these videos. Also, contact your local animal protection agency, maybe we should even contact PETA and see if they would campaign for consistent enforcement of the rules.

I'm going to go through as many videos as I can find and report them, I'm going to write a fairly detailed letter and use it for every video that I report. I'm having trouble finding the T&C's -specifically the part about animal abuse. I miss the old YouTube format Could someone link it to me so I can quote them? Thanks.

www.youtube.com/t/community_guidelines"Don't post [...] animal abuse, [...]" It's pretty clear. Snails = animals. Salt on snails = animal abuse, no matter how much people do it in their gardens. They don't allow posting videos of slaughtering cattle either, no matter how much cattle gets slaughtered every hour of the day.

Thanks stopyoutubeshowingsnailabuse.webs.com/ If you wish to sign the letter I am writing to YouTube, please visit that site and fill out the form at the bottom. I need to correct the letter slightly to include slugs as I didn't think of that at the time. The letter is open to sign until 2nd October, but that date will be extended if there are less than 100 signatures. I want an impressive list of signatures to make sure our voices are heard. So please sign and ask any of your friends to sign too!

That petition is a great idea! I signed it, of course, but would you mind if I cross posted it to Tumblr? There is a fairly active 'snails' tag there...

Hmm I can't view it without registering. Will do that later, but what do you think of adding a remark or two about other animals that often get neglected but suffer at the hands of people nonetheless? I guess the line has to be drawn somewhere, like is killing a fly animal abuse... but basically YouTube should, on ethical grounds as well as to be consistent in following its own community guidelines, to ban all videos that depict animals being killed or harmed for the sake of entertainment of the film creator or viewers. There is no reason to allow such videos, and killing and recording said violence is not a freedom of speech matter. For example, cartoon or 3D graphic demonstration can be used instead if animal abuse needs to be shown.
Also what should be acknowledged is the difference between killing for food and killing for amusement. It's the latter that we're trying to discourage here (the former is a far greater battle being fought elsewhere). It's generally a good idea to make a point of this as it shows the request is reasonable to most sensible people.
