Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem before.
My snail, a 13 (approx) month old fulica, seems to be getting restless at night, when I'm in bed. She spends a lot of time on the tank roof, which at first worried me because her shell is quite heavy and she's already hurt herself once by doing that. Now I have a new concern - she seems to have broken the hatch on top of her tank. When I cleaned her and Farthing out last Sunday, both the hinges were intact; when I opened the hatch yesterday, it came off in my hand!
The reason that I think that the snail did it, more than anything else, is that she woke me up the other night. I didn't know exactly what she was doing, but there was a banging noise coming from her tank and she was hanging upside-down on her roof. I'm wondering if she was pulling at the plastic and somehow managed to break off the hinges. Needless to say, I've got something heavy standing on that hatch, now!

All my snails are more active at night and like to climb around the tank lids, make sure that there's a soft enough landing if she does fall and maybe and some sticks, pots and moss for them to "play" in. Snails are nocturnal and mine sometimes make a racket. Make sure they can't get out the hatch though!

I have been hearing a drawn out creaking sound at night, they are digging away under their cork log and pushing it along the glass

I've noticed in my new tiger babies and slightly less new fuli babies that the tigers are almost aggressive burrowers! When the tigers arrived one started digging right away and managed to push some fuli babies up from the substrate lol.
And yeah there's all kinds of creaks and bangs as their shells hit on walls etc. and stuff gets moved around. You'd never think that of slugs and snails!

I'm used to the munching noises and creaking and tapping, but the banging I was trying to describe reminded me of the noises my brother's hamster used to make when she was pulling on the bars of her cage with her teeth. She'd pull as far as was possible and then lose her grip, making a banging, clanging noise as the bars sprang back into place. That was the sort of sound, only it was made with plastics.
