Hiya I have 1 giant african land snail and i was wondering if any other creatures can live in the same tank? Also just out of curiousity my snail does something strange and i was wondering if anyone had any explanations for it, not that its a problem i am just curious. Basically my snail is normal in activity but only goes up the side of the tank when he has been out on my hand. I spray the tank daily with room temp water mist. Nothing changes at all but as soon as you have had the snail out on your hand or out of the tank, as soon as you put it back in it climbs up the side of the tank?? Was just curious as to why it only does it then and not at any other time! Thank you for your help Kind regards Emma

1. I wouldn't put any other creatures in the tank apart from non-cannibalistic snails, like helix aspersa.
2. I reckon that it's because they don't really want all that soil on them. Mine used to do that too.

If you decide to put helix aspersa with them put the ones you choose in a seperate box with a piece of cuttlefish and just cucumber and water for a few days. They can have parasites in their digestive tract and droppings that will damage your Land Snail on rare occasions. Also take a magnifying lense and check the helix all over for tiny little mites , particularly around the breathing hole and the part of the shel that rests on the body so is always damp.
Also scrub the shell with a toothbrush or something similar ( without touching the body of course ) - sometimes you will find really nice patterns that are hidden under cakes of mud!
Both kinds of Cepeae snails will also live quite happily in a heated tank and they can be very colourful if you choose only the best ones out there or breed your own.

I keep mourning geckos with my snails. They eat flies and other small creatures that may overpopulate the tanks. I try to make miniature eco-systems in my tanks.

Thats a great idea. I have an big earthworm in my tank that I never really see but I know it keeps the poop down and eats Pluerodonte eggs, which isn't a problem as it seems more natural than freezing them. I do have to try and get to Cepaea eggs first tho!
I have heard of people keeping woodlice / pill bugs in with snails to help with detritus and poop problems but I have not tried it because their young would easily escape and infest my house!

The worm only seems to be interested in soft shell eggs that are quite small, I don't think one could manage the hard shells of GALS eggs. I might be wrong on that though but I have only ever witnessed the worm being interested in smaller species eggs.

I doubt an earthworm could eat GALS eggs, or even aspersa eggs.
