Hello,
I have two snails fairly fully grown, but one of them has started to produce a lot of slime. He seems to be happy, hes eating as always and is the active one of the two snails.
I was just wandering if any one knew if this was something to worry about or if he's just a slimy snail.
Hope to hear back soon.
Jellyboo.
xx

Hey hey,
Do you know the species? Any possibility you could post a picture of the slime? Is it perhaps bubbly kind of slime? Or really thick slime? Is it on the snail or is the snail leaving a slimier than usual trail?

Hello,
Just to let you know the slime problem seems to have cleared itself up. I think Gerald was just having a couple of slimy days.
However, Osca (Geralds brother) is having problems with his shell. It seems to have started to grow badly it looks like hes not getting enough calcium but he always has cuttle fish in the tank with him and he sits on it all the time.
ive been reading posts and thought it might be a Vitamin D problem, can anyone suggest a good way of supplementing this?

Glad to hear the slime problem got better.
For vitamin D supplementation for snails try fish food. All complete fish foods should come with all the vitamins and minerals fish need, and this suits snails perfectly. I always recommend the Tetra brand thanks to its high quality protein, they use fish, shrimp and seafood as the main ingredients instead of grains like cheaper brands. By giving some fish food a few times a week you not only offer the snails all the vitamins they need but also extra protein for growth and good health. Many species are opportunistic herbivores and consume carcasses if they get the chance. GALS like yours are known for it and will appreciate the fish food. If it's flakes you're using sprinkle them on top of food and spray a few times with water. Anything bigger needs to be soaked soft first until you can mash it with your finger. That's nice and easy to eat for the snails. Of course, as with all foods some snails have different preferences of fish food and may be picky.
