Hi all, as far as i was aware Iredalai don't lay eggs? I found mine on the side of the tank today and below him and halfway out of his body were what I can only describe as luminous green eggs! They were very soft and wet and the little pile of about ten that had fallen were all stuck together. I have put them to one side but as usual my camera has no battery power when I need it most!
Has anyone seen this before? Is this a result of him mating with a snail that does not have live young? As soon as he was done he was zooming around the tank sides and eating and generally seems happy. Happier than usual in fact. I'm a bit worried about the little fella though.
Any advice or replies would be appreciated.

I would really like to see both the parent snail and the eggs. Are you absolutely sure it is iredalei?

I will get a picture on the go now, though I put the eggs under a layer of soil in a little pot ( just incase! ) so they might not be quite as shiny and luminous now. They were very very strange indeed. Bear with me and I'll repost in a bit.

Here is the picture. They seem to have lost their green colour after a few days in the soil. There is a few missing because 2 split open when I moved them and I just disected one under an eyeglass to see if there was any sign of development - there wasn't. Attachments:

I've thrown the 'eggs' away now as they were degrading really quickly. There wasn't any sort of unpleasant smell or anything but it seemed like the inside was beginning to ooze through the shells. The snail 'myshell' seems to be happier than ever though and is zooming round the tank investigating the others and the new cuttlefish I put in so I'm not too worried anymore. Still interested in fellow snailkeepers opinions on what happened though.

Ah! I recall my first iredalei doing the same thing when they first got sexually mature. The eggs are not fertile. It could be a test of reproductive organs. Has yours recently matured? It may also be something that happens when no mate is available. I'd like to know if more people have witnessed this.
