Hi. I recently bought my daughter a 5 gallon tank for her room. There are 2 guppies a platy and a Molly. We bought a mystery snail only to discover it was dead. But now about a month later I can count at least 60 snails at any given time. I am wondering what kind of snails they are and how to keep them under control. They do not look like my mystery snail looked. They are brown and the eggs they lay are mostly clear and tiny and everywhere underwater. Any ideas?

It is likely to be either pond snail or a type of physa. Can't tell without a picture. You can either get fish or assasin snails that will eat them or put some cucumber in overnight and remove it before you switch the lights on then destroy the snails attached and repeat as necessary.

if you've added any live plants to your tank, they will almost always carry snails or egg sacks, we had 2 thousand of these common pond snails hatch out in our tank a month after setting it up. So we bought 20 assassin snails, and they ate every last one of the common snails in about 2 weeks. Assassins are very pretty snails too, so I keep a good few of them in all my tanks as a safty measure!
