Hi all ;D I just wanted to ask my margies laid eggs on 25th feb What sort of hatch time do these have does anyone know? And how would be best to keep them? I gave some to a couple of mates and so far 1 of them as had one hatch which was last sat. and nothing at all since. Just wanted to be sure all is going well and im doing things right and how much longer i would have to wait i know too eager lol

It can be 4 weeks or it can be up to 8 apparently. So wait a little longer lol I know the feeling, one of my batches is 4 weeks old today and I'm getting so impatient!! I think Sarahs hatched on capillary matting, Val and Moracai have theirs in soil (with moss I think), one batch of mine is on moss and the other is on 2 types of moss with bamboo leaves lol. People also keep them on vermiculite or whatever substrate they are using. A temp of 24/25c in the day and 22c at night seems to be fine. Just keep them warm and damp or however your margies like to be kept. Goodluck

The thing is, i so far have never heard of anyone hatching margies that have been removed from the tank, it may have happened but i for one have never heard of it. All of my eggs are kept in the tank they were laid in, i do move them into a pot so as the other snails can't disturb them but they are kept in the tank, apart from when i clean the tank out then they are moved into the next door tank which is identicle in size, temp etc... I have had fairly good success hatching 15 out of 32 eggs in which a few of those were victims of accidents so there may have been more hatch! and that was on my forst try so i think i did pretty good. They are kept on capillary matting to prevent staining and less chance of mites/worms,
erm... yeah they are kept about 26°C day and 22°C at night, this never changes!
i think thats about it :-)

My 2 batches that were in soil discoloured, with little pock marks all over them. I candled them and they were empty. Have given up hope on them, they are from mid february. My third batch, I have been using Sarah's method, on capillary matting, and so far no discolouration. They haven't been candled yet, as they are only about a week and a half old, so not sure if they will be sucessful or not yet.

My first batch was laid on 18th Jan, I did not remove them but put them in the coffee polythene (sp?) cup with soil and moss and also covered the eggs with moss on top, there were only 2 out of 5 eggs that hatched. And my 2nd batch was laid 15th Feb, and there are 3 that hatched out of 5 eggs.
My tank is set up with heat mat underneath, but the heat mat only turns on with a timer, so it is not on all the time, it is like every 2 - 3 hours as the tank gets very humid. Tis is the tank that I keep some of my fulicas and albino margies together, so I don't want to get the tank too wet, during the day, I always open the lid. The themometer reading is always @26c.
Got another batch that were laid the day before and last night by 2 different albino margies, I might try different methods to get them all hatch (probably will ask my friend who has bred margies for years with a high success rate. Will post again once I find out.)

Look at the time I wrote my reply, I can't help forgetting the in the tank/out the tank bit lol. That is a good point Sarah, one which I've been thinking about with mine. I've decided if they lay more I will leave half in the tank and take the other half out. Of course if any of my 15 that I've already taken out hatch then doing that "test" wont matter as much lol. What I will do for definite if they lay more though is try them on the different substrates. I'll do some on vermiculite, some on coir and some on soil.
