Sherm's was looking a bit...erm...like he'd been violated, so I got Boycie and Marlene out to check them over, and well, it seems like Boycie's been keeping a secret from us..... Hmm is that a flash of white? That's not a snail egg, surely? Perhaps an ostrich one, but it cant be a snail's...can it? Argh - there's more, there's more! The guilty parties....although Sherm's isn't in the clear til we do the DNA test on Trisha... Now....what the hell do I do with margie eggs? How long will it be til he lays them? What temp is best? Argh! Mind you, if we've got the world's first snostriches, then we're screwed... ;D

Looks like he's ready to lay very soon. They require moisture and a reasonable temperature and they are more much prone to disturbance than Achatina eggs. They also will take 3-6 weeks to hatch. The advantage is that the resulting babies are larger and much hardier. According to the breeding paper: www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/6210/rsch.htmDryness is the main factor of why they fail.

Thanks Paul Judging by their size, I reckon they'll be about the same size as Sherman when they hatch *lol* Is it possible he's been holding on to them for a bit - as they were on capillary for a couple of weeks but didn't take to it, and now they're back on moss - and he's full of eggs ;D

It could well be, it's hard to say. The hatching time should give you an idea of that.

Something else I was thinking about - with all the margie babies going about, is it right for me to hatch them at all? I'd hate to end up with snails who cant find homes. Although they will be beautiful if they do hatch, as B + M are lovely dark shelled ovums.

That would make sense wouldn't it?? But they come out of the opening at the side of the neck I watched Tutter squeezing his eggs out, it was amazing. Not a great pic but you just make out the egg coming out. Anjie,x.

At least you can remember their names Joe and Jack regularly swap names, and Becca usually becomes Emma or Sophie. Although I have called Mick, Dad, on occasion, it wasn't whilst talking to the kids either. And Emma was once called Sky (our dog) so hey, I think I win hands down. I can remember Emma and Sophie's birthdays as they're only one day apart. But ask me the triplets, and I'd be stuck! I can remember their weights, but not their middle names too

LOL ;D Update on the pregnant mother...erm...father...tank is all clean, loads of moss in, he's had a quick bath, and the last I saw of Marlene was her running around with towels and a kettle... Piccies of porridge time: "My god, woman, what are you trying to feed me, I've had a taste, and you know where you can stick it!", says Boycie (hormonal or what?) Boycie wanders off refusing to eat....and what is Marlene doing? That's right, she's watching what she eats *groans at crap joke* Boycie showing that a change of scenery aint going to make him eat it ...and he heads for the roof I think he's keeping an eye out for the anaesthetist, I think he's after an epidural

Thanks Sarah, shall tell Boycie he's a clever boy *lol*
I have a couple of questions - firstly, if he lays in the moss they have as substrate, shall I just leave them there? And secondly, if he's not laid before it comes, is it ok to move him into the new viv, or should I leave him in the storage box til he does, then move him to the viv and keep the eggs/babies in the storage box?

Well I remember you said before you get patches where they've taken the moss with them and it gets squished in... so if they still do that maybe it would be a good idea to put the eggs in one of the food tubs with moss in so that they can't get trampled on but are still in that tank.
As for moving... um I'm not sure lol. Sorry.

hmm, i was going to say move him into the new viv before i read the rest, but thats a good idea to leave him in the box until he lays as long as after hes moved out you don't change anything you have been doing while hes in there like heating, spraying and not moving the box, Boycie will lay in the area he feels is best, so it's best not to move the box or change heating etc... In my experience i'd say he will most deffinately lay in the next week, no longer :-) Good luck!

Ahh well that's my prob, I have to move the box to put the new viv in it's place. But I can move B & M now to the downstairs bathroom in front of the radiator - lovely and toasty. Will it be ok to move him before he lays? He'll get a chance to get used to it then, and then the eggs aren't moving once they're laid.
