Hi , This is Shaun - ee my storeria dekayi. Dekay's Northern Brown Snake. Family Colubridae. I just took this photo, as I just walked into the room to see her on her basking rock so I thought it would take a good picture. They are very small snakes. She was the size of a worm when I first got her and has shed her skin in perfect condition twice now. If their skin is shed in perfect condition that means the snake is healthy. She is going to be treated to a new bigger tank soon and some new fun hides and things. vallery Attachments:

Oh she's lovely! But.. she does eat snails doesn't she? Or do you feed other insects?

Thanks pinkunicorn , Shuan - ee eats little meal worms and those little red worms. This type of snake will eat snails but I would never feed her those. I have already removed and relocated 2 adult dekay's from my open out door snail santuary, as I have leopard slugs and oxy's as they eat snails as well. Dekay's eat small insects as well but I am not sure what kind. vallery

She's beautiful! Just curious, what's the ideal temperature for this type of snake?

Hi gunshotglitter , Actually I keep all my snail species, slugs, spider and snake in the same room. The heat fluctuates depending outdoor temperature so it varies between 70 and 75 degrees. Works out perfectly for all my little pets. I have never had to use heat pads or coils. The humidity stays even because I live right on a lake. Valerie

I caught one of these guys when I was 17. Lovely snakes to have as pets. Very personable and easy to keep. I've kept G. rosea and B. emilia.

Aww, I love jumping spiders! I've kept a lot of those, particularly that species. For some odd reason, I keep finding them in my apartment. But hey, I'm not complaining! It's especially funny when I find them on my computer monitor, because they'll chase the cursor.

Hi Malacophile , They are really neat spiders. They don't look like much unless you get a really close up of them and there amazing. I had one before this but let him go. When I caught this one it turned out to be a pregnant female and laid two egg sacks. I witnessed most of the wee ones getting away through the screen top. I doubled the screen but they still got through. They were all over the plants in my kitchen. The only place in my flat were I have ever seen them is by my kitchen window on the ledge or the plants. So I am always extra careful cleaning around there. They sure keep the fruit fly population down. So I still have Momma spider even though her babies are gone, but lately these past two weeks she won't eat her crickets. And not the time of year for flies so I am a little worried. She is so big now and bold I am afraid if I let her go she will accidentally get squished in the kitchen, a lot of foot traffic in that particular room. And the crickets are the tiniest ones you can get and she always went right for them, but she seems afraid of them now for some reason. If one gets close by her she sticks those big legs up in the air til it wonders off. vallery
