Hello, i discovered a batch of around 30 odd eggs in my snails tank buried in their hut. they're bright yellow shelled but hard not goey.
What advice can you give? they wouldn't have been there more than a week. Can yellow eggs still be alive??? I have one fully gown tiger. one Retic and two Margies one just about of age so i'm inclined to think it was them.
Thanks!

Thanks! They may be margie eggs, but 30 is quite a lot for one batch! How big are the eggs? Margie eggs are always hard-shelled and not at all gooey or soft. They are usually yellow-ish in colour. I've seen various different shades of colour laid by different snails - sometimes kind of beige with a yellowish tinge, sometimes quite bright yellow. They sound like healthy eggs from your description Here is a photo I took of an egg laid by a large wild-caught margie, next to a penny to show size. Eggs laid by my captive-bred margies were always a little smaller than this, however. If you want to let them hatch, then it's fine to leave them where they are. But it's OK to move them if you want to hatch them in a separate tank, too. Just scoop them up gently along with some substrate and put them in a warm damp tank or tub. You can lightly cover them with soil or moss, or leave them uncovered as long as they are kept moist and humid (but not soaking wet). When they hatch, they will spend a little while consuming their eggshell and they may not move around much for several days. This is normal. When they're ready to get up and move around, they will. Just provide them with fresh food and calcium as you would for adult snails. Good luck

Thanks for responding. I dug them out-gently. and put them in two small containers because i wasn't sure if they were dead at first. They actually laid nearly 40... i didn't even think Loki was sexually mature enough yet but apparently so didn't waist any time. I have them in moist soil on a heat mat for now ill keep checking the temperatures not sure exactly what i'm doing but hopefully some/ all make it. here's a photo. Attachments:

it could just be the photo but they look rather small for margie eggs... can you give an idea of the size? it'll be exciting to see what they hatch into

I was thinking the same they are pretty small.. fingernail sized. Though i also think it could be Loki the Margie because he was always in that area at the time. hes not fully grown yet either he's about 9 -10 months wouldn't expect him to carry large eggs. My two margies seem to be clambering all over each other at the moment as well. Not sure if they're going to hatch i'll update if they do

well depending on the size of your fingernail.. it seems rather large for any of the others but small for margies... i hope they hatch would love to hear what they are - keep us posted

My margie eggs look exactly the same as yours, almost half the size of what other people have reported and that same yellow too even haha

*evil Angel, are yours near to hatching yet? mine were laid over a month ago now, only things that craked open were empty. Pretty doubtful that anythings going to hatch now.

okay so nothing more from these eggs, i'm not sure if i just wait a bit or try and crack one open though i'm a bit nervous doing that.
Pretty sure they'll be empty. Do margie eggs often take more than a month to hatch?

Depends how warm they've been kept but they can take more than a month. Do they look and smell OK still? i.e. no browning or bad smell?
