Hi one and all, I'm new on here so here go's I have 5 GALS , 3 normal GALS called Pasty,Pepper and Star and 2 Albinos called Daisy and Jade. I feed them on Mango, lettuce ( little gem) cabbage, spring green, apple, kiwi, cucumber, corguette, banana and basically a variety of food. Their actually spoilt rotten. LOL At the moment they have a heat mat under the tank but I've been advised to put the heat mat on the side of their tank so I'll do that soon. I really hope that they will breed soon. Anyway thats it. Thanks for reading

Hello and welcome, I haven't been around as much so I think I missed your first introduction :< It's quite likely that your snails arent eating as much because they are a little cold, if your heat mat is on the side of the tank you may need to back the heat mat with polystyrene to stop the heat escaping through the back of the mat. Personally I put my heat mats underneath the tank (mine are 7watt too) and I've had no problems in doing this however there are loads of arguments for both ways so the choice is yours I find that the tank is heated better and the substrate has never gotten hot.

Well a quick update. I tried your idea and placed something ( cardboard) as I don't have polystyrene on to the back of the heat mat(s) and the temperature shot up in both tanks. Temperature is now 29℃ in the Achatinas Fulicas tank and around 20℃ in the babies tank. I will however spray them daily now just keep the tank moist and slightly damp. You can also use bubble wrap to help insulate the back of heatmats. The insulating foil that you put behind radiators to reflect heat is great too

Update #2
Well after a lot of dithering and mithering plus endless trips onto Google land to try to find out as much about Achatina Fulicas as I could I decided to remove the back cover of cardboard from the back of their heat mat and the temperature is now between 24-25℃ and with daily mistings of warm water I think their a lot more comfortable in their environment now.
