So I've gone and gotten myself into yet another project. Finishing articles on Snailkeeping has gone on hold because I got bored of keyboard mashing, so I traded keyboard mashing educational pages with making an online book/site/free downloadable PDF on obtaining supplies, setting up and generally the practical 'what am i doing' side of keeping snails because people want it and I think it'd be a nice idea.
Of course I couldn't just do that without absolute chaos reigning down in the form of summer, and a whole bunch of baby snails were cooked to death by the sheer heat. Sadly it was too late by the time I found them, but now the snails are on the receiving end of the hose daily, every morning, until this horrid weather ends. It's like a cute little party, wiggling their faces in the air trying to get as soaked as possible.
I'm trying to juggle monitoring the outdoor tank, keep the indoor tanks fed, looking after my vegetables, having some remnant of a social life, keeping my seedlings from drying out, actually being around my family and going outdoors, and it's turning into a real mess. I've thrown handfuls of food at all of them, so hopefully that's at least three days of freedom from poking, prodding and having my fingers chewed on.
How's everyone else's summer going? I thought it'd be a nice change just to have a thread for the general chit-chat instead of questions and advice and all that. I think my followers are getting fed up of my constant blabbing.
Also it's a fun 16C outside. At midnight. Guess how it feels sitting in a room with double-glazed windows.

Ahh you and me both, I sure can't sleep to nite its just to darn hot n humid n thundery here, I'm not a million miles from the UK being in Ireland so the weathers pretty similar. I prefer the dry heat of back home but at least here we have green grass all year and often to much water. Also got a heap of baby snails and more still to hatch, there to small to release yet so there in tanks inside. There doing fine but its a constant thing of checking on them, n feeding etc. As well as running a small mountain farm and the horses. Ive gone into breeding old rare breeds of chickens, it all came about as I wanted a few hens for eggs n rapidly grew. As with all animals they get sick or injured from time to time and I currently have 2 young pullets in a cage in my bed room with me as one got bullied n pecked at n now has an infection she's fighting. I've only just got those 4 pullets but I suspect its one of the males that did it to her, So a bit of tlc peace n good food n treatment for the wound n hopefully she'll survive. As for the veggies in the poly tunnel they have just taken off n tomorrow I have to find more time to plant some out n re tie others to poles for support. I'm not complaining its just I'm not sure how I'm going to fit everything in as I've visitors coming from back home n still have to do some decorating n sort out my room for them to use. Hope they don't mind the snail tanks lol they have been warned that they will be sharing a room with the GALS. the others I can move out with me as they don't need heat pads. the GALS are at least enjoying the extra warm weather n humidity. Now I have to check they don't get to humid but its great to see them so active. This house is over 200 yrs old with 4ft thick stone walls so is cool in the summer n warm in the winter, but my windows r all open n its still to darn warm to sleep. Its great to have a chit chat post by the way and nice to know what others are doing around Keeping snails n your idea sounds great. Zorst
